Acid Reflux and its Symptoms: Are they chronic?

Posted by mwarenski @mwarenski, Feb 13, 2017

Does anyone have a variety of symptoms associated with Acid Reflux that are chronic? Such as chest pain, back pain, weird tastes, etc.? Please tell me your symptoms. A little worried here...thinking it may be something more serious.

First thanks for your service! I had LYNX surgery at Mayo in 2014. After that I discovered I had a Fructose intolerance even though they tested me for it prior to surgery. I have written several replies to this thread. Please before surgery and taking PPI's or other drugs that have severe side effects try an elimination diet. You may not like what you have to give up but you will feel so. much better. Doctors like to just prescribe drugs and then after a few years you hear they cause cancer and heart problems, soon you'll go down the rabbit hole of taking drugs to relieve the symptoms of drugs you're on. I had to give up fruit and sugars of all kind which is in just about everything, and stick to whole foods. Some vegetables are actually fruits, anything with seeds. Also beans and some nuts are fruits!! These intolerances cause more problems then just reflux. If your eating a food that you can't tolerate can have autoimmune diseases, diabetes, IBS, and many other ailments! I have never had a med since I went off fructose! It's often easier to take a pill then change eating habits but try eliminating certain food groups for a few weeks and see if you feel better. FYI if you've been on PPI's for over 2 weeks and try to get off you will have rebounds that are worse than what you had to start with. I think some people confuse that with assuming that the diet didn't work.

@teresaallen .. Papaya Enzyme pills work for me as well .. I use 3 at a time to knock down bloating.. I have gastroparesis .. so food stays in my stomach a lot longer than it should.. so I do not get prone... for 2 hours after I eat.. I eat small meals.. chewing well.. but at the first indication of bloating ... the good tasting Papaya Enzyme pills help me a lot.. in 15-20 minutes the bloat feeling is gone..

I have Gastroparesis. I have been on super enzymes and papaya enzymes with every meal. I have cut out sweets and eat very very minimal dairy. No more coffee, just teas. I got off of all PPI’ and the Carafate I was on for bile reflux. My symptoms of horrible reflux and the bad taste have diminished. I eat slower at meal and do not eat anything fatty or fried.
I am learning everyday of what to eat and not. So far so good. When I get nausea due to Gastroparesis, I eat ginger chews, eat Manuka honey, and use antihistamines. And I feel so much better. I just have to work on my constipation, I go every day but it’s sometimes difficult. But the best part is I no longer have heartburn and that was the biggest issue for me every single day since June

I had the Linx procedure done last September, I experience pain in the my throat, chest and all the way to my stomach, not all the time, but when it does happen, it hurts! It feels like it spasms, and lasts for hours. Is anyone else going through this pain? I guess I will call my doctor in the morning to see if this is normal. I also wanted to ask if I have to do a different diet? Not sure if I did th right thing by having this surgery, had rave reviews about it. I would like some feed back please.

Yes, I went through a week of testing Mayo. I was diognoist with Functional Dyspepsia. No cure your body has phantom symptoms with no real body damage. Eating right helps along with probiotics. I read yesterday someone had relief with flax seed also. Will try it. Many people have truer different surgeries and found out that is not what was wrong. Dig deep into Functional Dyspepsi. Wishing you good health.

I’ve had chronic digestive disorders w/ 6 diagnoses one being GERD and Gastritis , IBS , Esophagitis, …. 6 Gastro Dr’s , even Mayo Clinic Jacksonville recently for more tests . I deep wet belch over 2000x a day/ night / my gut and intestines never stops churning loud . Wakes me up ⬆️. I sleep propped up 3 pillows . Eat so clean and do everything right . Still I have been sick w/ this everyday for 8 years. No more tests to do . No diet ( I’ve done all the elimination diets ) , no RX to help now , I’ve tried every holistic treatment and diff herbs and pre and pro biotics .
It’s ruined my life pretty much .
I’m always filled w/ gas . So I’m a medical mystery. I just turned 60 ( look 53). I pray 🙏 everyday for a days relief 🥲 here and there , but it doesn’t help . I hope someone can help you .
