What helps with hair loss?

@neomipaul, @loribmt, and all...Hello, all. I'm starting over now after mistakenly deleting my finished message, taking a deep breath a starting over!
I began losing my hair many years ago and was horrified. I'm now glad to say I have a full head of hair. After the dermatologist diagnosed me with alopecia and said unless I want to use Rogaine every morning for the rest of my life I need to get used to it and consider wigs. I did...

For several years I used Rogain daily and gradually my hair began to re-grow. It worked. Although, a bother, it worked and I didn't have to begin wearing wigs. During that time, I also changed the color I was using on my hair to one with fewer harsh chemicals. I made my hair healthier but didn't stop the loss. I stopped coloring my hair a few years later thinking it could be harmful and contribute to the loss. I became a natural white/silver-haired 70-year-old woman. I loved it. And, I used the 5% Rogaine foam. Fairly easy,

Then, I was diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, at Mayo, and the doc told me my iron levels were extremely low. He put me on the over-the-counter supplement, Vitron with C. C is required for iron absorption, which is part of my problem. This was a remarkable addition to my supplements...more energy felt so much better, helped reduce the restless leg syndrome, slowly noticed my hair was growing better, less falling out, and the color began changing! As my iron levels rose closer to normal, my hair was getting darker in places. I became, again, a salt- and - pepper-haired woman. What a surprise. Iron made my hair healthier and darker.

Also, I was diagnosed with low thyroid, which surely contributed to hair loss. This shows you the many possible contributors to hair loss, in addition to heredity and others. I can tell you I now have a good head of gray/silver/ black hair now. It's a good thing.

Blessings as you decipher this dilemma. May it go well...elizabeth

My friend uses the 5% Rogaine, but the amount per treatment is so small that she cannot spread it all over her hair. It's limited to a relatively small area. Also, my hairdresser told me that one of her clients had good results, but had to stop because it caused hair growth in places where she didn't want it.

Elizabeth, I so identify with you! I am older (85 now) and began to lose hair several years ago. I was already brown/gray/white and still am, but my hair is getting so thin! I am on thyroid meds. because I was also losing weight (not a bad thing, but strange). Hair loss got a little better, but not much. I take vitamins but not C or iron. Thank you for your info!
