"Dents" in leg muscles

Posted by rubie @rubie, Jul 17, 2019

Developing dents in muscles of lower right leg - when I rub my leg, feel like a there's a hole in muscle and it is actually visible - saw reflection in store window. . . Surprised me for sure! I very frequently have terrible cramps/burning/stinging/"electric" pains in my legs and feet. Wondering if my muscles are sort of disintegrating. Anyone else know what I am talking about?

Hi @yenot and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect.5 years is a terribly long time needing a hip replacement and being in pain. I am sorry to hear you have to deal with that. You will see that I moved your post to a discussion about dents in your legs so you can get to know members that have the same issues.
@sueinmn has an excellent post on gait here and might be something you would be interested in reading. https://connect.mayoclinic.org/comment/635851/

Actually I do, but I was told that my dent in my calf muscle is caused by a trapped nerve. That they can’t seem to find what’s on the perineal nerve, I have been dealing with mine since I was 16 years old and now I’m 40 and they’re baffled. Some doctors think I have a nerve disease because of the trapped nerves, now I see a neurologist and hopefully they can figure this out.

Welcome @italiansweetie1016, You mentioned that you have been dealing with the dent in your calf muscle since you were 16 years old and the doctors are baffled so you are now going to see a neurologist. Are you able to share a little more about the symptoms you have?

HI, I have a lump on the outside of my calf muscle and it has been tender there for years. I thought for years that it had something to do with my nerves--maybe a varicose vein. Now it is in the pain category. I put Capsaicin on it and it hides the pain. I had so many tests on it--no answers. It just goes along with the pain and weirdness in my lower legs and feet. I get along ok, but it is a struggle some days. 🙂

I just received a referral to go see a neurologist. I was in a bad car accident when I was 16 years old I twisted my back and I messed up my leg, ankle and foot. I’m having numbness, tingling, burning and it’s tight in my calf and I have a dent in it and found out the dent is from a trapped nerve but they don’t know where it is.The specialist figured out that I have no ligaments in my ankle . They have done ultrasound, X-rays, EMG 3 times and some MRI’s. They still don’t know where the nerve is trapped and I honestly think it’s coming from the foot or ankle but they are the doctors so they think they know everything.

I think I would be having the same thoughts as yourself if trauma to the leg, ankle and foot from a car accident. I'm hoping the neurologist can get some answers for you and provide a treatment that helps with the pain. The following article seems similar to the pain you have - What Causes a Pinched Nerve in Your Foot and How Can You Treat It?: https://www.healthline.com/health/symptom/pinched-nerve-in-foot

When is your appointment with the neurologist? Do you mind sharing what you find out?

I don’t have an appointment yet but hopefully next week. I will call definitely share what they find out. Hopefully it can help someone else so they don’t have to go through what I am. The main reason I am seeing the neurologist is I have a repetitive motion injury in my shoulders and the right one has a trapped nerve in it as well and nobody can seem to figure it out. I had cervicle disc replacement surgery from a neurosurgeon and he replaced 2 discs in my neck c4,c5,c5 and c6 and everyone thought it would fix the shoulders but it didn’t so that is why I am going to the neurologist and I’m hoping they can figure both of them out my shoulders first because I can’t do anything with them and it’s been 2years.

My girlfriend noticed this indent in her upper thigh yesterday. She has an appointment to see a doctor Monday but was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what this could possibly be. It’s not sore to the touch and there is no bruising. She isn't on any steroid shots.

I also get a dent on both sides right above the ankle only on the right side when I'm sitting at my computer. When I get up it gradually goes away. Have not told Oncologist yet will see her in Feb.
