What's outside of your picture window today?

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Nov 25, 2020

As we get ready for the real winter to show up and COVID-19 still playing a major part in our lives I like to spend moments of my day de-stressing about what's going on in the world today. All I have to do is look out the window and observe some of natures beautiful creatures, how they interact and ponder how small it makes my troubles seem. Sometimes I may even get the opportunity to take a photo or two. How about you? Anything going on outside of your window(s) that you want to share?

For those members that have the ability to size your photos before you upload them to the discussion, may I suggest using the following sizes:
– 500 x 335 pixels (landscape)
– 210 x 210 pixels (square)

@johnbishop Thanks for opening up so many windows across the USA. It is great to see and read what is outside everyones' window. And the pictures were so great. I have gone back and looked at them again, also read what people wrote about outside their window again also. Thanks again for such great visual pictures from all over. Stay safe and healthy this new year.KLH

Thanks @kilh! Here’s a picture from Mayo Clinic Rochester looking out from the 15th floor when I was taking my wife to her PT appointment.

That picture brings some feelings of hope in me. Feelings I remember from being there seeing that view. Some days it is hard to remain hopeful. I would imagine we all go through that during these times. Isn’t it interesting how that image revives those feelings of hope.

@johnbishop Thanks for another great view. I have not been in a building that tall since I lived outside Chicago. KLH

There’s such a dignity with old dogs, isn’t there? I have such a soft spot for them.
We remember their puppy days of running with unlimited energy, always entertaining us with their silliness and then there’s the unconditional love and companionship they bring. As we see them age there’s this underlying sadness for what’s to come.
You’ve given this baby a wonderful life. In her heart and head, she’s still a puppy romping through the snow. Give her some belly rubs and ‘lubs’ for me. 🥰
Our daughter and husband just adopted a dog. He’s about a year old and what a little charmer that guy is!! Feels so good to have a doggo back in the family. My husband and I aren’t in the position to get our own dog so until then I take ‘fur fixes’ where I can get them! Something therapeutic about petting our furry friends.

Thanks so much for your kind words! Our experiences with all our dogs over the years have been so special and unique in so many precious ways! I’ll be sure to give her a few extra belly rubs and “lubs” from you.

@migizii @loribmt You two are right there is such dignity in an older dog. In 2010, my husband was at one of our other farms on Labor Day to work cattle. While working they heard a noise by one of the big mineral feeders. They went to check it out and found a year-old Pyrenees pup. He apparently was dumped out into our pasture. We searched to find an owner and run ads and put up posters. But found no one. So we had a guard dog again named Jake. In April after that Labor Day Abby was delivered to us from Illinois. She was only three months old and just all puppy, not ready to be a guard dog yet. I came home from work and found my new garden hose in sixteen pieces. As I remember Jake would sit for hours in his RCA Victor pose and watch the pastures. Abby was getting older and figuring out what she was supposed to do. The two worked out a plan. Jake would guard all day and sleep in the big barn at night while Abby was on guard all night and slept most of the day. We had a good ten years with Jake who would ride in the gator to check the cow. But a year ago we found laying in the barn and would get up. So we said our goodbyes. But Abby is still around trying to figure out how to guard all day and then all day. I did spend time looking out my window as the two grew up. Abby now has a barn cat that follows her and sleeps on top of her back where it is warm especially in the winter. And now look out my window thinking of Jake, with his head up, tail curled, and running at a fast trot. It was a beautiful sight. Thanks for the memories and remembering our furry friends.

This is my Tinkerbell, she came to us a year after hurricane Katrina when she remained unclaimed. We had her 15 years and she got quite old, but we don’t know for sure how old. We said our good byes and buried her under the fig tree, where she spent her summers waiting for the sweet fruit, then eating as much as she could find if we didn’t get them all picked up. We would leave her one each day on purpose for the few weeks they were ripe.

Aww Chris, what a precious little girl! Look at that face. I’m sure she could get away with everything! I’m so happy for you and her that you all wound up together! She had a good life and was well loved. ☺️

Beautiful Chris…I’m very sorry for your loss. Zerbina is a “Dixie Dog” from NC, abandoned and pregnant. We’ve been together 14 years, she’s about 16. Unfortunately has Cushings Disease. She’s a trooper though and I’m learning a lot about care and compassion as I put on my boots to carry her outside and keep her bundled up, keep her hungry Doxie stomach happy, and, hug her lots!

@johnbishop Well today looking out the window is all a different view. The sky is cloudy and gray, the snow has been falling since the early morning. The snow is just coming down lightly but no large fluffy flakes. The snow is going to continue till tomorrow. The guard dog and the barn cats are all on the patio and snug to the back door. The big tractor with a large round bale just went by going out to feed the cows and calves their morning hay. Sometime today they will get their grain. The forecast says tomorrow around 1600 we will have sunshine. You never know what you will find outside your window if you do not take the time every now and then to look. Stay safe and look out your window for a moment. KLH
