Cataract Surgery: What to expect after surgery

Please keep me posted. I have an appointment at Hopkins in late February.

@monak I am sorry you experience blurriness a year after cataract surgery. I’ve never heard of glasses helping with blur other than corrective vision lenses.

My mom went through the same thing with blur for a year after initial cataract surgery. It wasn't until she was diagnosed with post-cataracts, or "secondary cataracts", and fixed with YAG laser procedure, that her blur dissipated. I also developed secondary cataracts, but I had double vision as a result and focus issues. YAG fixed me as well. Neither of our eye doctors mentioned secondary cataracts could possibly occur.

I agree with Rachel's, @rwinney, comment on laser surgery to correct post-cataract surgery blurriness. I have had cataracts removed on both eyes and have also had laser surgery on both eyes. It really did help.

Has your doctor offered you that option, @monak? If not, it is always your right to get a second opinion.

I would like to hear how you are progressing with this problem. Will you post again?

I am so grateful for your help. The eye surgeon was unwilling to listen. I am going for another opinion in late February at Hopkins. It bothers me the most at the computer where the screen is 23 inches away from my face.

I finally had an appointment with Dr. De Meglio at Hopkins Wilmer’s Eye Clinic yesterday, and she was outstanding. The left eye which is my blurry eye, well, the multifocal lens is not entirely centered on my pupil. Has anyone ever had surgery to reposition the multifocal lens? She will ask her colleagues about it, but what are your thoughts?

For the next three months, however, I’m aggressively treating dry eyes to see if that might help. Y’all had recommended Systane night time ointment which she says is excellent. I’m to continue with that. But I’m to hunt for eye drops that say artificial tears— from these brands:
Systane
Refresh
Blink
Theratears

I can find eye drops and I’ve got Blink and Thearatears in my shopping cart, but I don’t see artificial tear drops by Systane.

Regarding my blurry left eye. Has anyone ever had surgery to reposition the multifocal lens?

I am scheduled for laser surgery as the eye where the cateract was replaced has clouded over. After the operation will i need new glasses or at least an eye test

I got the expensive lens for the stigmatism in my left eye. My vision is a litlte better but I also have mild MD so it's not great, and the eye hurts sometimes, aches, and is blurry. I still have a cataract in my right eye but it's not that bad yet. I went back to the dr several times complaining of discomfort and some pain but he said everything was fine. But it still hurts and I don't know what's wrong. Also feels like something is in there and its' very distracting. He was condescending and when I told him his staff told me to stop the anti-inflammatory drops several weeks after surgery he didn't believe me and said they wouldn't have said that, except I didn't make that up. I'm thinking of getting a second opinion and don't want to go back to him for the other eye.

I remember my vision being blurry for a few days. The eye drops contributed to this. Did you have a near vision implant in this eye? I had a near vision implant and a week later a far vision implant I adjusted within a few days and my vision was great, however I had halos around lights at night that continue to this day. I do not drive out of town at night but do fine in my city as I’m familiar with it.

I have had both eyes done. On one I saw clearly right after surgery. On the other it was blurry for several days. Also saw a grayish mist for several months in the corner of one eye and that has disappeared. Out of both eyes I saw a bluish wash that has lessened to normal vision.
