Hip pain and steroid injection

Yes Sue, I had steroid injections in my hip before replacement. Initially it helped for a few months. The 3rd injection only helped for 3 weeks. then I knew it was time to have surgery. This was the same thing I experienced with other arthritic joints like my thumb and wrist.

Over the past 20 years of patching and replacing, I have concluded that the "good time" for surgery is when alternatives don't provide enough relief to live productively - it's always inconvenient. Also, waiting too long can result in further damage that makes surgery and recovery more complicated.

How long have you been dealing with the pain?
Sue

Probably longer than I realize. What I thought was knee pain because I do have knee arthritis, is actually referred pain from hip. I also have lots of degenerative disc problems. So over a # of years but now right hip is pretty bad.
Hope steroid injection will help. ( Also have osteoporosis in hip & spine). In Canada, when it comes to surgery and treatment, the wait is always too long.
