More pain 2 weeks after surgery to remove a diverticulum

Posted by dawnkoehn @dawnkoehn, Nov 23, 2021

My husband had esophageal surgery Nov 3. He ended up going back to the hospital for infections in his one lung the following week. Since then his pain is getting worse not better. Any ideas on what is causing this?

Hi @dawnkoehn, you must be very worried. Did he have surgery for esophageal cancer or another condition? Is he in the hospital now?

He had surgery to remove a diverticulum and widen his stomach opening. This was his second surgery, the first doctor thought it was a hernia and it wasn't. The second surgery they went through his back between 2 ribs and deflated his lung. He was in the hospital for that because of fluid buildup.
He isn't in the hospital right now, but yes, I'm very worried.

Hi Dawn, thanks for the additional information. I moved your message to the Digestive Health group here: https://connect.mayoclinic.org/group/digestive-gastrointestinal-problems/

I think you'll get more responses from people in this group who have experience with abdominal surgery and diverticulum.

What have the physicians said about the worsening pain? Has it started to subside yet?
