Post-COVID Energy and Other Weirdness

Posted by acansfield1983 @acansfield1983, Nov 16, 2021

Six days out of quarantine, I have tons of energy, almost too much, like my body is racing and jittery, but my mind is in normal mode. However, when casually strolling down the hall at work, I feel like I’m winded, or just completed a race. I have to stop and breathe when I get to my destination.

Noticing behind sinus cavity dizziness with turning my head, eyes, or entire body. Reminds me of a concussion I had about 15-20 years ago.

Tonight started heaviness, or chest pressure, in the center of my chest. I checked my BP, 147/89, and HR 72 bpm. I was sitting on couch, cuddling with my dog, and watching TV.

I can also smell everything! I normally cannot smell anything after years of allergies, so this has been a fun surprise! Today I noticed black pepper, bananas, spicy chai tea, and an apple. It was a treat!

Curious if anyone else has noticed these things. Thinking I will go back to doctor about chest pressure - that has me concerned.

I’m 14 months post-Covid and STILL haven’t regained my full sense of smell or taste. In fact, ghost pepper sauce doesn’t even make my eyes water anymore. I do share your experience of getting easily winded. I’m following the exercises on the PBS programs “Sit & Be Fit” and “Easy Yoga” to improve my stamina and lung capacity. That might help you too

@acansfield1983, you certainly have some symptoms I haven't seen others report like tons of energy, bordering on too much, and an improved sense of smell. But maybe someone else does. Allow me to bring other long haulers into this discussion like, @rbrzeg @erice10 @daviddennis123 @lynnryan @lmschwartz2 @ellen307 @mindig @debberanner @rinadbq @lynn1954 @djwinchell @banksnc49

Acansfield1983, I agree that you would be wise to discuss the high blood pressure and heaviness in your chest. You don't want to wait with those kinds of symptoms. How has it been returning to work? Do you have a physically demanding job?

I'm 9 months out post Covid. When I finally started to regain some taste and smell, some things were as I remembered and others were completely different. At first eating salads was fine, then all of a sudden lettuce started tasting weird. I no longer eat salads with lettuce, but do taste it from time to time to see if it starts tasting "normal" again. Somethings I can taste and smell fully, other things I can barely taste or smell. Hot sauce is no longer hot anymore. I can taste and smell Dr Pepper, but I can stick my nose in a bottle of bleach and smell nothing. I was at a friend's house who has treated city water ( I have well water ) and could smell the chlorine in the water. When I got home, I try to smell the bleach, but couldn't. I can certainly be frustrating and dangerous when you can't smell things like smoke or gasoline.

As for energy, I certainly have a lack of it and a greater intolerance for heat. Thankfully it is getting cooler now In Texas so perhaps I can get caught up with my outside work that has been neglected due to the lack of energy and heat tolerance. I don't have time for all this and try to push myself to keep moving. Sometimes I do give in to the case of the " I don't wannas. " Also, my asthma that hasn't been an issue for many years has recently reappeared. Luckily it isn't severe enough to keep me from doing things. I can control it with an over the counter inhaler when needed.

I wrote last week that I have been having heaviness in my chest, shortness of breath and heart palpitations. I saw my pcp for an EKG and it did show a difference from one that I had had several months ago. I will be see a cardiologist this coming Monday to get a heart monitor, which I will wear for a week. I’m one yr out from covid and I’m convinced this is from having it. These symptoms have popped up off and on throughout the yr but never for this long. This has been going on this time for almost 2 wks. I will report what my dr says if anything shows up. It can be very frustrating dealing with post covid issues. Mine are different from other people I know. There seems to be a wide range of after effects of this horrible virus.

There was an excellent article in the 24 Nov 2021 issue of The Atlantic entitled “Even Health-Care Workers With Long COVID Are Being Dismissed”
