Prednisone and Glucosamine & Chondroitin
Has anybody tried taking Glucosamine & Chondroitin for PMR while on Prednisone to help with joint pain? My mom had lots of arthritis aches and swore by Glucosamine & Chondroitin. Just wondering. I'm on 4mg of prednisone still a little achy, and hesitant to add anything after a painful bout adding OTC melatonin .

@jmcc, My PMR is in remission now but with my second occurrence of PMR back in 2016 I made some lifestyle changes and started taking tumeric and CoQ10 to help reduce inflammation. I think it enabled me to taper off of the prednisone in less time than my first occurrence of PMR. The first time took 3 and half years to taper off. The second time took a year and half to taper off. I still take tumeric but have switched from CoQ10 to Ubiquinol since it has better bioavailability. Diet and exercise also play a large part in helping the PMR symptoms.

I'm down to 1mg of prednisone, I've been taking Glucosamine for a few years, didn't notice any difference when I added Chondroiti for 3 months. I also take plaquenil as I have RA aswell as PMR.
Hi all, I just read about a study posted by http://www.examine.com that 100mg of saffron a day helped alleviate symptoms in people with rheumatoid arthritis, in two groups - those taking prednisone and those not. Saffron reduces inflammation. You can probably find the reference by googling Examine.com Saffron. I stopped taking glucosamine and chondroitin years ago for knee pain and found keratin to be more effective.
I think it should be noted that people taking medications need to check with a physician, or a medication site, if they plan to add supplements to their daily routine. Some medications and supplements cannot safely be taken together and can even be lethal.
