@raebaby

I saw the oncologist today and he said i can discontinue my anti-hormone as i became so emotionally miserable on it. He looked at my hormone levels and said they are fine. He told me to avoid soy products.

I am really glad he said go ahead and quit. Just an FYI, black cohosh Is also very high in estrogens. I am so happy for you.

I’m 79. Had bilateral lumpectomies in July; radiation in late September. My oncologist suggested he have the Onco test run. Excellent results. On Letrozole since 11/1. So far, so good.
Started counseling.
My PCP gave me a prescription for PT. Walking and exercising almost every day. Eating as healthily as I know - I have HYPOglycemia. My bone scan came back with more good news.
All-in-all, I feel lucky and grateful.

Chris, are you suggesting that those of us on AIs should avoid products containing Black Cohosh? When my breast cancer was discovered and I was taken off of hormone therapy, the Women’s Health physician at Mayo advised taking Nature’s Way AM/PM Menopause Formula to help with symptoms. This contains Black Cohosh. I am now a year out from the diagnosis and I a, wondering if I should try life without it.

Sorry, What is PT and who is PSP? My bilateral was also in July . Have you done MRI after surgery when the margin is defined? What grade was your cancer? We decided avoid radiation, assuming will effect my AFIB -heart arrhythmia !
Started Tamoxifen in October. Will see....

When your doctor told you to avoid soy products, it’s because he was referring to natural estrogens. Black cohosh isn’t exactly an estrogen but there is evidence that it activates estrogens within the body. This is why products like estroven include doses of soy and black cohosh, there are many other natural products that create estrogens or activate them in the body. If you read about phytoestrogens, it is amazing what you can learn. They are definitely a mixed curse/blessing. I think life is a balance ours is just a little more precarious. The formula you take is definitely less dangerous to you than estrogen replacement therapy would be.
