SPR Peripheral Nerve Stimulator (SPRINT)
Hi everyone! The Sprint implant was recently recommended my son (17 years old) who suffers from severe pain on the bottoms of both feet from his SFN. Has anyone ever tried this device? It’s only “implanted” for 60 days so it sounds like an interesting concept but hesitant since the DRG implant was ineffective for him. Thank you so much for any insight anyone may have! Have a great day!

Has anyone actually tried the SPRINT system.
Hi again, Marty, I hope the RFA has not made things worse! I thought I would mention one thing. It's probably a long shot, but I heard another lady here talk about taking Benfotiamine for her foot pain, and that her pain went down considerably from taking it. I started taking it, and within about 48 hours, I would say my pain has been cut in half and many hours of the day, I am pain free. Nights are still the most difficult. Benfotiamine is a fat soluble form of Vitamin B1 (thiamine). If a person is low in thiamine, he can get damaged nerves and pain. I would imagine I was low in thiamine because Benfotiamine has been the only thing that has considerably lowered my pain. I buy the Best Vite brand on Amazon, and take 2 300mg. pills daily. I thought maybe you would want to give it a try. I have read that it can take even a month to start improving, but I improved almost immediately. I feel that I have gotten my life back to some degree. Not perfect, but way improved. Maybe give Benfotiamine a try. It's just Vitamin B1. Lori
I will give it a try. Thanks Lori for your concern. God bless
Marty, Good you are trying Benfotiamine. You never know!!! God bless you, too! Lori
Hi Lori, we spoked by phone months ago about Kratom. I was diagnosed with idiopathic small fiber neuropathy about 6 years ago, and have tried all of the usual drugs out there and none really works. I went to the Mayo Clinic this past June, and was there for 4 days of testing, some of which I have had in the past. They confirmed my diagnosis and that was it. Since then I have tried a SCS from Abbott and the relief did not justify permanent implantation. I am scheduled for a sympathetic nerve block in 2 weeks, which I have never had. After that I may try the trial run of a DRG stimulator. I know the Abbott rep really well, and she did a great job during the first trial. If that fails, Georgia should have a medical marijuana distribution system in place hopefully by the middle of next year.
The trip to Mayo was interesting, but that’s all. I was in the pharmaceutical industry for almost 40 years and I must say my industry has dropped the ball big time in researching and finding how to reverse neuropathy. Unfortunately, I know of nothing that is really significant in the treatment of neuropathy coming out anytime soon. I am glad B1 helps you. I believe you tried a DRG stimulator in the past. I assume it didn’t work for you.
Hang in there!
I am also looking for information regarding PNS . It must be fairly new as my Dr. has not performed the procedure an would like me to be the 1st. Says that his sister is a pain specialist in Chicago and she has had great success with it. I suffer from mostly pain in my feet along wit severe back pain. I tried the trial of the Vertiflex procedure. I had no relief after 7 days. Now I swear my feet are worse. Going to try Benfotiamine which was mentioned earlier on the platform. If you do get anything regarding the Sprint system , please post and I will do the same. Good luck...
Hi Lori. I have been on the same path that you have experienced with no positive results. Still on Gabapentin but would like to get off. I was glad to hear you have got some relief from Benfotiamine. I am interested in giving it a shot. I was curious however as to whether you are Diabetic. There is mention of Diabetes in the research of Benfotiamine. I have gone through the Veriflex Spinal stimulation trial with no improvement. Dr now wants me to try the Sprint PNS. Not able to find a lot of info about it. I suffer from severe back pain and lots of problems with my feet from neuropathy. Thank you for the information you have posted. Best of luck to you.......
I am waiting for an open surgical center to in plant the Sprint system in my back. I have severe back pain along with Neuropathy in my legs. I will let you know how it goes.
I have been using mega Benfototiamine for a couple of years. 1000 mg in divided doses. I take this in conjunction with R-Lipooc Acid 600 mg in divided doses. I feel it helps. The R Lipoic is considerably more bio available than Alpha Lipoic
Best of luck.
