Asthma and MAC: What non-steroid options work for you?
Hello I have Mac and asthma. Was on Flovent for years that I think made me susceptible to Mac. Now likely starting second round of mac treatment. I have weaned off Flovent very slowly. Has anyone with Mac been on one of the biological asthma meds such as dupixent or xolair. I take allergy shots currently but had discussed trying dupixent with my allergy doc to help me stay off the Flovent.

Hello @marlin. It is good you are looking into your options, especially if you feel the benefits of Flovent aren't greater than the drawbacks. As with any medication change, it is also good to have a supportive care team to guide you.
I found a previous comment by @sueinmn that may be helpful as you explore your options for non-steriod treatment and she may have some additional thoughts/suggestions.:

What, if any, are the recommendations you've been offered so far?
Interesting idea - why? Flovent serves to reduce inflammation, which I would think lessens chance of infection.
I have taken it, without recurrence of MAC, for a couple years because Breo and Spiriva both affected my voice.
My brother gets regular Xolair infusions and still uses Flovent. My daughter uses Breo plus Dupixent, so I don't think they would necessarily replace it.

There are studies that show significantly increased incidence of mac in patients who had been on inhaled steroids specifically flovent for many years. That was probably my biggest risk factor for Mac as I don’t have bronchiectasis just asthma. Since my Mac has returned just trying to reduce my risk factors as much as possible going forward.
