Looking For A Hotel Suggestion: Mayo Rochester, MN
I have an appointment scheduled for mid December at the Rochester Clinic and I’m looking for just the right hotel. My wants and needs:
1) Covered parking and it needs to be readily accessible - I do not travel light😉;
2) I’m a walker so I don’t need to be right across the street and I’m a Minnesota gal so I can handle the weather, but I do want to be able to walk to my appointments;
3) I’m a germaphobe. I travel with my own bedding, hence the need to be able to get things from my car. I know. I’m weird. We own two small inns in Florida so let’s just say I’m very well aware of hospitality standards. No matter where I stay, any time I travel, I always leave the room much cleaner than when I checked in.
It’s a short list, but weirdly specific. I’d like a fridge in the room, but I do not need a kitchenette. I don’t eat breakfast so that’s not a concern either.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi @drodenburg and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect! Your request is not only admirable, but well understood!
The Marriott Rochester has a walkway from the hotel to the clinic and I think would be suitable for your needs! You can also request a kitchen or just a refrigerator.
If I may ask, What are you traveling to Mayo Clinic for?
Hi Amanda
Thanks for the quick response!
Does the Marriott have covered and accessible parking?
I have a neurology appointment scheduled - I’ve had a headache 24/7 for seven months. I do feel very fortunate I was able to get in.
We just had a negative experience at Kahler Inn and Suites. There were hundreds of teenagers present in the lobby and in front of the hotel when we arrived a few days ago. No one was wearing a mask or social distancing and there were no supervising adults apparent. We learned that there was a Youth Conference at the Civic Center and the teens were all lodged at the Kahler Inn and Suites until Saturday. We had always felt that the Kahler Inn and Suites had been so careful during the pandemic but not this time. We were so distressed by this that we checked out and went to the Marriott Residence Inn. There is covered and accessible parking however I believe there is an additional charge. We've also enjoyed staying at the Aspen Suites where there is free underground parking. It's about a 15 minute walk to the Clinic or you can take the shuttle.
We stayed at town place suites and used the shuttle, we enjoyed being out away from downtown and the place is so welcoming and friendly and the really good breakfasts were nice too.
Hello! I am glad you got into Mayo- there’s really no better place to go! I have also stayed in Kahler Inn and Aspen Suites. Both were good depending on which building you need- my first trip for testing we did Kahler and second trip for surgery Aspen Suites- both had covered parking for a fee. I am not sure if I would stay at Kahler again, Marriott looked a little nicer and the staff at Kahler were not very friendly. Best wishes- I hope you get your answers!

Hello @drodenburg, My name is Lawrence and I am one of the Concierge at Mayo Clinic. It looks like you have very specific needs for your stay. I am happy to discuss your best possible options tailored to your specific needs. Please give us a call at 507-538-8438.
We stayed at the Aspen Suites . They were so accommodating and provided breakfast and dinner Monday thru Thursday. We had to extend my stay several times and it was no problem at all. I used the shuttle to go to my husband’s appointments and walked
Across the street to St Mary’s hospital for his surgery and subsequent recovery . Very nice. Rooms were being renovated when I was there 2 years ago. There is covered parking.
We just stayed at Hyatt House. It is a couple blocks from the main Mayo buildings but certainly walkable. Hyatt has a thorough cleaning process which gave us comfort at this time. They also have covered parking for an extra cost and we had a small refrigerator in our room.
@mjay I am traveling to Mayo in November and although I have a reservation at the Kahler Grand, I am considering changing my reservation so I can stay at the Hyatt House. I have their credit card and plenty of points so it would be free. I just wasn't sure about the distance to Mayo and how the shuttle service is. I am very mobile so walking isn't an issue. I'm just torn since part of me wants to be at a hotel that is connected via their subway system. But...I love the Hyatt. I feel like the Hyatt House is new, as we don't remember seeing it the last time I was at Mayo. You had a good experience there?
Yes, we had a very nice stay there. I’m not sure how old the hotel is. It was just this month we stayed there so it may not be as warm in November, so it might be nicer to be connected via subway. However, the shuttle was very timely and worked out well. I would recommend. Plus free is a good thing!
