Forteo vs. Tymlos: Which did you choose?
I have to make a decision on Forteo vs. Tymlos and am not sure what to choose. Forteo has been around a lot longer, but has to be refrigerated. Tymlos only around 1 1/2 years but is shelf stable and seems to have less side effects and less issues with calcium. Can anyone offer their perspective? Thank you!

I’ve been reading these helpful posts, and I’ve just made an account so I hope I’ve posted in the correct spot. I’ve just started taking Tymlos, and I’m worried about the warning about rats getting cancer. My sister has had breast cancer, and my dad died from cancer. Do you think me taking Tymlos is too risky?
I do not think it is risky at all for you. The rats had huge doses for a longer time. I don't think anyone has developed bone cancer from either Forteo or Tymlos. They actually removed the warning and 2 year time limit for Forteo. Tymlos is newer so it will happen later. My post was for people who already have had cancer. And was awhile ago. I am taking Tymos myself at this point.
Thank you!
@windyshores Good afternoon. Liked your comments about the rats. Just thought the tortoise would check in. and see how the hare is doing. I am sure the hare has gone ahead. I finished two weeks of 3 clicks and last night started the week with 4 clicks. So far so good. Talked to Radius and will start receiving my free monthly shipments on October 27th. Hope this finds you charging head and well. Take care. KLH
Wow you are at a half dose! The hare has slowed down. Most days I do 7 clicks but every third day or so I go back to 6 because my heart feels a little floppy several hours later on 7. Today I am moving on to 7 consistently. I meet with my endo doc tomorrow and in his honor might do 8 tomorrow morning 🙂 You are doing great! I called the company and told them they are losing customers because docs tell people to start at full dose, and Radius could do more business if docs told people they could start low. I was only told that because of my bad reaction on my first try.
Good Morning let me know how you are doing with 8. Two nights @ 4 and still fine. But I get all ready for bed and give the shot and get into bed and hope to fall asleep. Who did you talk to at Radius and what was their reply or solution., or did not care (I hate to say)? Boy, the hare is almost double the distance of the hare. I am going to stay at 4 for two. It seems to work with two-week intervals. We had 2 inches of rain and now the days are in the forties. I am not ready for cold weather. It seems that the more clicks I do, then at night my RLS happens more often.
Does giving your shot in the morning make you tired during the day. Do you have a job or can you stay at home if you have a reaction? I better get started on more applesauce or my apples are going to spoil. Let me know how the appl. goes with the doc. And if you can stand 8 and stay there. Keep well and healthy till next time for the rest of our story. KLH
I started earlier than you! Actually I meant that I talked to Tymlos, not Radius and they were very interested.
I actually prefer giving the shot in the morning at this point. There was a small study on Forteo showing it was better to administer in the morning in terms of effectiveness, but people are doing well either way.
My side effects, like weakness or heart palps, seem to occur 10 hours after the shot. So morning works. Before, when I did it at night, I woke up with a headache and of course has an episode of afib too.
If I can only do 7, or even 6, I will still be happy because I was told even a half dose will help.
Okay tried 8 and it is too much..feel woozy, heart palps....7 is fine! Weird that one click makes so much difference. I needed to try so I can tell doc tomorrow. I am small so maybe 6-7 is enough. I'll let you know.
Since I retired and the sheep are gone (no morning chores) we do not rise as early as before but are you in a different time zone. It is just nice not to have to get up at 0400 and then drive 30 miles to work every day. But back to the matter at hand. I did not know there was a different place to call about Tymlos. I have only talked to Radius. So what do you call for just Tymlos? And would it do any good if more people on Tymlos had the same side effect call them? I think Radius is only interested in their assistance program. What do you think? My side effects occur within 10 minutes after the injection and the last two nights the injection side hurt but went away in 5 minutes. Keep me posted about your Dr appointment and how you proceed from here. Hope all is well with you and stay safe.KLH
I talk with Together with Tymlos, the patient support program. You can google it.
Eight clicks is too much for me. With 6 or 7 I have no side effects right after the shot. With 8 I am still in bed feeling woozy.
