Gratitude Discussion Group

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Nov 24, 2018

Hi everyone! Just before Thanksgiving @michellegraffradford posted a blog called Gratitude Changes Everything. She suggested three techniques to help incorporate gratitude into our daily lives:

  • Start the Day with Gratitude (before getting up think of three people you are grateful for)

  • Maintain a Gratitude Journal to record times when you are grateful

  • Count Blessings – not sheep! (Review the day and remember moments of gratitude)

Her blogpost was so inspiring that a lot of us decided we wanted to form a Gratitude Group to keep the attitude of gratitude going. The blogpost area is not an ideal space for a big discussion group so I am moving the discussion over here to the “Just Want to Talk” Group. Let’s use this space to share and discuss our Gratitude Journey. I’m going to suggest that we each try to take a minute from the day and post here what has made us feel thankful today. It can be as small as a stranger’s smile on the bus or as large as fulfilling a major life dream – or anywhere in between. We can also discuss how we are doing with the three techniques. Sometimes it is easier to form new habits with support from others.

Michelle's full blogpost is at the link below. You may want to review it or print it out to help get started!

I look forward to hearing from others in the Gratitude Group and to having others join us here! Thanks to those who already shared great stories. If you haven't yet, what gratitude will you share today?!

Today I am grateful for...sunshine, my ability to see the fall colors, the bubbling of my pond as I begin fall cleanup chores, and being alive to enjoy these things.

Today I am very grateful for my husband. Soon I will be facing going on to kidney dialysis, and am opting for at-home peritoneal dialysis. My husband has jumped right on-board to help me figure out what will work for us, the set-up, and various suggestions. Yes, some days I just want to rest, but I try to keep a smile in my voice as he interrupts me with more information. Truly a keeper!

@sueinmn I have also started the fall clean-up chores. a little at a time as marathons are in the distant past.

I'm grateful I didn't croak at the gym today. I walked 2.3 grueling miles and did some other stuff. My goal of course was to burn off enough calories so I could come home and have some candy.
I am grateful I only had 4 trick-or-treaters last night.
I think I have more candy on hand than even I can eat, shocking I know.
I never thought I would say that.

Ah,Jake,we're grateful you didn't croak as well. Who would tell us the lame jokes?

I'm grateful for every day. This morning I was able to share some information with one sister that she needed to know and understand, and she didn't go ballistic nor pry with unneeded questions. That is progress.

I am grateful for doctors who trust their patients and really listen. My ER doc, PCP and gastro PA and surgeon made it happen. I am now without abdominal pain because they didn't dismiss my opinion that I had a bad gall bladder. Sue

I'm grateful that I'm finally having some good days and my IBS is taking a hiatus. I'm grateful for making awesome headway this week on my decluttering and downsizing in preparation for moving to Long Term Care. I'm grateful for all the wonderful family and friends I have, and the love they surround me with. I'm grateful for Mayo Clinic Connect for the support and caring they share across the miles.

“Lame” an obvious slip of the tongue.

Where do spiders seek health advice? WebMD.

My daughter thinks I don't give her enough privacy. At least that's what she wrote in her diary.

Why can't you trust an atom? Because they make up everything.

Fun fact: Australia's biggest export is boomerangs. It's also their biggest import.

I tried to organize a professional Hide-and-Seek tournament, but it was a complete failure. Good players are hard to find.

Before the invention of the wheel… everything was a drag!
What do you call it when

What did the duck say when she bought a lipstick? Put it on my bill!

😂🤣. Reminds me of my favorite joke… What do you call a boomerang that doesn’t return? A stick.
