Nasal passage blocked
Anyone else have one nasal passage totally blocked all the time? I use neti pot, saline spray, etc but never is unblocked. I was told I have deviated septum. Was also told to use Flonase but don’t like it.

The NeilMed squeeze bottle does not have a tube. They are available at any drug counter. They also have med packets.
Actually I meant the tube on the Mayo Clinic nasal spray bottle not the Neilmed nasal rinse bottle.
@johnbishop Thanks for the clarification. Has anyone tried adding Dexamethasone to the rinse? My Mayo Jax ENT had me add one tablet to the spray bottle in addition to the Neilmed packet. My rx reads “4mg used in 240 ML of distilled water and irrigate twice daily.” It was a godsend for me. I had what I called a hot spot in my sinus for over a year and a half, caused by a cracked molar root. I made the mistake of forgetting to use the packet with it and nearly passed out from the burning so be sure to not make that mistake. Good luck.
Thanks for asking. 4 nosebleeds in July. 2 cauterized.
Since then: “crusting.” …suspect nasal meds used in 2 ERs + sprays recommended for follow-up care exacerbated atrophic rhinitis. No explanation by ENTs for sudden bleeds or subsequent crusting.
It is now 5 months later since I wrote here about my ear/nasal issues. I thought I should write again about my experience in case it helps others. All the sprays/washes etc never helped much with nasal issues. I could feel all the inflammation in my body and one ear (my good ear) was experiencing flipping in and out of hearing. I could hear my own voice extremely loud when I was speaking and could hear myself breathing. VERY annoying. It has a name but can’t remember. I had lost 25 lbs and diagnosed with PMR which is chronic arthritis. ENT wanted to do eustasion tube surgery. I waited to see if my drugs I had to take were the cause. The prednisone I was taking for PMR instantly cured my nasal issues but was still having the ear issue. I read up on the eustasion tube condition and found that losing weight quickly can have this affect. SO, fast forward, my ear issue resolved once I started to gain weight back. So thankful for not letting ENT do surgery.
Thanks for sharing. My situation is kinda similar. Trying nasal breathing, seems good for BP (lowered 15) but uncomfortable esp. walking uphill. I suspect I've had the problem long term, but mostly mouth breathed thru it! 77 & not interested in surgery!
I also wanted to mention my best treatment for nasal "congestion" at this point is the Vick Inhalador which I thot was going to be a bogus trick, but it feels helpful. Sprays got to where i think they made things worse, but I've not had the Mayo propitiatory spray.
@zaa-thank you for sharing this information. As you diligently explained, there are so many different things that affect the area above the neck. It was so wise of you to pay attention to your own sensations, listen to yourself and tune into what you thought it could be.
It sounds like you had patulous eustscian tube, where the tube remains open. Many of these types of issues do self correct. Good for you for not listening to the ENT and avoiding an unnecessary procedure.
And thank you for your nice reply. Yes, I did have the patulous eustasion tube disorder and was told I could lose hearing in that ear so I was very concerned. It was one of my happy days when this disorder went away.
Hello @nordnord, Welcome to Connect! I'm 78 and also not interested in surgery for the deviated septum. I've been on the twice daily nasal rinse followed by the Mayo proprietary nasal spray for going on 4 months now and can't believe how much of a difference it has made. It does loosen up the crusty stuff and clears up my nasal breathing which makes it much easier to focus on breathing through the nose. I still need to meet with my ENT after the current prescription runs out to see if this is a forever thing or just using a twice daily nasal rinse by itself.
The ENT actually spent some time with me showing the best way to use the nasal spray and also sent me home with instructions showing how to use it. One tip I've learned with the nasal rinse is that the distilled water I use even though it's room temperature is cold to my nose. After I fill the bottle and add the salt solution, I put the bottle in the sink with hot water and let it set for a few minutes. This has made the rinse more comfortable and also helps loosen up the crud and clearing it out before using the nasal spray. I think the Vicks portable steam inhaler may do the same thing and would be a big help.
Is the Vicks Inhalador a scented nasal tube you rub in the nose?
