I have just run across an article from June 2020, with Joe Falkinham as one of the authors. I don't know how to make a link, but the title is Physical Measures to Reduce Exposure to Tap Water–Associated Nontuberculous Mycobacteria, so you can google that to read the whole thing.

In it he reports a study that looked at different treatments for drinking water and how effective they were at eliminating MAC. They found 2 options that were extremely effective and should be easy to use when traveling:
1. LifeStraw Go - a water bottle with a straw connected to a double filter in the bottle. Just add water and drink through the straw. It takes a bit more of a strong suck than a water bottle without a filter, but totally worth it! And you can add ice without worrying!
2. SteriPEN Aqua UV Water Purifier Kit You can swirl this device in 1 liter of clear water for a minute and a half and all the NTM are gone. I'm going to use it on the distilled water I put in my cpap as well as for drinking water when traveling.

Both are available from our big online retailer as well as camping outlets. I am so excited to have some good alternatives to boiling!

Thanks, Sue. Armando’s link is to a more recent and more comprehensive article. Very useful! It does refer briefly to the 2 devices I mentioned, but they didn’t capture my attention until I saw the full study on them that can be found at the other title.
