Abscess MRSA after hip replacement

Hi jake, fingers crossed your cousins procedure goes well. My husband is currently without a hip following an infection in his hip. He has also had the spacer device fitted in the hip area, which I assume is the device you mention which contains antibiotics. This is usually left in for a few months to allow the antibiotics to be released into his body. He will be able to walk with the spacer device, albeit a bit slow but with time and patience he’ll learn how to adjust with it. Hopefully after this time, they’ll remove it and put in a new hip joint. Good luck to your cousin.

Thank you for the information. It puts my mind at ease. Sounds like this is going to be a long drawn out process. i knew better than to let the procedure be done in the small town where he lives. Although I suppose this could happen anywhere.

Just received a call and my cousin isn't doing well after the hip removal surgery. He’s being moved to intensive care. He is having breathing difficulties, irregular heartbeat, losing blood and currently unconscious.

So sorry to hear the news about your cousin Jake. Praying that somehow he will be stabilized and start recovery.

So sad to hear Jake. It is always difficult when someone close is suffering.

My cousin passed away 9pm Wednesday. I’m so grateful that he rallied long enough that I was able to talk to him yesterday.

Hi Jake- I have gone thru this 2 times. 2 times they removed the HW, put a PIC in for 6 weeks and put the implant back in and both were successful. The hardest part was stabilizing on the antibiotics - which are wicked sometimes. Both my infections were at large, well known hospitals in CA and NY so you are right...it can happen anywhere. It's a long process and sometimes he will feel sad, I had a calendar printed out and marked off each antibiotic treatment to the end. That helped me have something to keep me going. I wish him patience and luck and I am sure when the HW is returned, after a little while, he'll be back on his way.

Oh, I am sorry you lost your cousin - they are such a special connection to our past. I am happy you had the opportunity to speak with him.
