Bilateral mastectomy: how to decide on hormone therapy or not?

My wife, 39 yo, was diagnosed with DCIS non invasive. We did a bilateral mastectomy for both breasts (dcis in 1 breast). Should she take anti hormones pills or no. We had different feedbacks from several ancologists.
Thank u.

I used aloe, but not from a fresh plant. I bought 100% aloe with no alcohol from the store. I kept it in the fridge, it felt so good. The burns are sadly kind of normal. Probably 75% of the people I have known, have had burns. Lymphadema could happen if you get an infection, if the burns are open you have to be very careful with them. Are your burn blisters or open wounds or is the skin intact?

Open, I saw my radiation oncologist this morning he lambasted me for using aloe and didn’t recommend it said it could have bacteria that could cause infection. I explained I used tge leaf of the plant washed if in hot water and soap, sterilized my knife before I slit the leaf to get tge. Atrial gel out, He was firm I was not to use aloe even though it soothed it when the doctor who substituted for him said it was ok. I think some of this might me cya if I get an infection because I have been report the pain from the burn and was given cotizone cream recommended by the nurse and prescribed by the other doctor. Tgey said it could also cause lymphodema, again I wonder if pa rot of this is cya in cAse I do get an infection.

Open skin burns get infected SUPER easy. I would agree that you shouldn’t use anything except sterile cream. If it gets infected it can cause lymphadema for sure. I am glad that you talked to them. Please be careful, infection in a burn can be pretty awful.

I am getting 200 cGys each treatment for 30 days, My tumor was A half inch in size, one lymph node was invaded within the breast, my pet scan was clear my margins were clear. Is this the standard dose under these circumstances For triple negative invasive carcinoma?
,I am now experiencing severe second-degree burns. Didn’t see my oncologist as he was substituting for another doctorfor two weeks ,saw the nurse who I realize this is “uncomfortable” I told her uncomfortable was not the correct Description. She should call it what it is painful extremely painful.I. Called Tuesday just befor treatment and left a message I would not take tge treatment until I saw the doctor and he looked the wounds.I saw him yesterday and he said the burns were normal .I remember thinking in my head how can 2nd degree burns be normal?Cancer treatment is barbaric. I have a much deeper And empathy for those who go through chemo and then have to go to through radiation. They are true heroes. Language is powerful words are powerful and I did express my feeling to the nurses when they told me well if it’s too much pain discontinue treatment. I told him that was inappropriate and callous patients need to be validated if they are experiencing pain it should be called pain not discomfort It minimizes what the patient is feeling and doesn’t validate what they are experiencing. Medical staff working with cancer patients have a tough job I guess they have to encompass themselves in some kind of shield because they’re dealing with life and death every day and that Can take an emotional toll. But at the same time there has to be a balance so that staff don’t become what can be perceived to be indifferent.

Geez, you are right! That was inappropriate and callous. I agree that cancer treatment is barbaric. We have come a long way, but the road ahead is still very long. I was burned by radiation, deeply into the tissue, and on the surface but definitely not to the extent you are talking about. That sounds incredibly painful. You do need to be very careful about infection but they could be treating the pain. What are they doing for you?

I was given skintegrety hydrogel.i asked for non stick pads .as they were giving me abdominal pads that stuck to tge burns that absorbed some spots of blood. I approach the nurse today and told her I felt her comment was callous. And I said to her I know you I understand that you have to develop kind of a shield because this could be emotionally draining dealing with life and death issues but you have to remember we are human beings with feelings. And diminishing pain by describing it is uncomfortable it’s not appropriate I did it with a lot of love and I said I hope you will take this in the spirit was delivered. I also told him about the whole environment of scanning a card like you’re A number in a deli line you see no one you get your own gown I’m disabled in a wheelchair, and you say no until the radiation therapist comes to get you you know there’s two nurses at the station they don’t say good morning how are you nothing it’s almost like you’re just a number so I explain my feelings to them today and I think more cancer patients should speak up because the emphasis seems to be compliance by fear. What are the nurses said thank you for the feedback we’re gonna try to do better the one that made the comment to me said nothing and continued describing my pain as “discomfort“. There Hass to be a better way there Hass to be a union between Western and eastern medicine the eastern medicine they are healers the Western medicine it’s more about frightening you into using the drugs that ravage your body there’s a place for both and there’s a need for both but I don’t understand why they can’t work in harmony

I know next to nothing about eastern medicine. I do understand whole body care, but it isn’t always enough.
I am not a radiologist but from everything I just read, that is exactly the normal dose of radiation.

Your radiation oncologist can give you a prescription for a burn cream. Mine had suggested an aloe gel which I used daily but still had the burns. The burn cream helped immensely. Please check further and ask about that.

The burns are getting worse, my oncologist told me not to use allow. I used to work in a hospital this looks like an advanced 2nd degree burn, my breast surgeon said it was a substantial burn now it is blistering at the scar where they took the lymph node out. This is sadistic making anyone go through these burns and suggesting you continue treatment and risk infection pain etc.It is barbaric.i have more burning and sores with the booster it seems they could lessen the radiation so I can complete the course of treatment. My PCPk says the wounds need to heal
