I'm not sure if this is the place to post but..... hopefully some will have answers for me. I have bronchiectasis and went through a "flare" -- took clindamycin as that had been the last antibiotic used but this time, it really didn't seem to work. I contacted Mayo's and my pulmonologist was out. Someone filling in for him sent me Bacterim. I had a sputum test run and the results say pseudomonas. Bacterim is not on the list of recommended antibiotics for this. Does anyone have experience with pseudomonas and is it hard to be rid of it. I'll fax this report to Mayo's Monday morning and see where they want to go with it. Just questioning for others with experience with this bacteria. Thank you.....

Hi Jan,
I just got treated for pseudomonas. The treatment was tobramyacin nebulized two times a day for two weeks. They also use Ciproflaxacin for it or levaquin which is oral medication for two weeks. I don't take the oral ones because our reacting to them so they always give me tobramyacin nebulized. They told me the only other choice was iv medications for it. I have done the iv medications once for it 8 years ago. I had an extremely bad case and did not have a pulminologist yet to do a sputum test so by the time I got to a pulminologist I was in pretty bad shape and needed to do two iv's on myself a day for two weeks.
Anyway I probably had pseudomonas 8 times since I have been seen by a pulminologist.
Anyway hope this helps Jan!

@pfists Shari, OMG, 8 times with pseudomonas! Are you kidding me? Could you maybe be re-infecting yourself from something in your immediate environment?

@windwalker
Yes it seems maybe once a year pseudomonas showes up maybe it was 6 times in the last 8 yrs. But if its catched early the meds work well. Usually you will cough up green phlegm with it.
Pseudomonas can be cultured in a couple of days and when treated quickly it doesn't seem to be such a problem.
I think it kinda stays in your system not sure. I also get aspergillus to show up frequently in sputum but they don't treat it always unless they think its colonizing. Because they say its in the air we breath so unless its colonizing they don't treat it.
Glad your back Terri!

They didn't recommended PROBIOTICS?  That gives you good bacterias to fight the bad one to colonize.

Auntnanny!

I feel like asking you :Have you tried clear lungs to keep your lungs clear and probiotic non dairy. Antibiotic destroys your  good bacteria also you know, you need to give your body good soldier to fight the bad as my doctor says.

I feel sad for you. All these problem. Take care of yourself. Don't take probiotic at the same time 4 hours before or after your antibiotic.  It is very safe!

Hello - I had a very bad case of pseudemonas and it was treated with Levofloxacin (500 MG once a day for 10 days - it cleared up in 2 weeks. Hope this helps, Pamela in Boston

Is there any evidence that the antibiotic also kills the probiotic that you are taking

Hi Terri: unicorn Christa here. Computer went down and more complicated on cel but figured out. Have been following posts. My doc said I tested positive for Mac, big duh, sorry. I am on exercise and breathing regimen, ct in January. That will really
Say whether it is getting worse fast or not. No recent bleeding, but sometimes that scary caughing, when it hurts a bit and u think blood coming. Really bad when I am tired . 7 years on the big theee? !! Wow, I would be blind and dead. Thank u so much for your concern, I
May call if I get a scary bleed, so sweet of u to reach out!!! Waiting for new drugs.

Probiotic is also prescribe here for certaine disease by doctor. Like Cdifficil bacteria. Probiotic give your intestine good bacteria.  It helps to fight the bad one.

@auntnanny Gosh Jan, if it is not one thing, it is another! I am so sorry to hear about the pseudomonas, that seems to come with the MAC/bronchiecstasis territory. I had it last year and was put on nebulized tobramycin and cipro on alternating months. Those two meds got rid of it. I am not familiar with bacterim. Ask for your lab report and make sure it includes the suseptability test. That is the test that shows what antibiotics will and will not work on your infection. That may be why your dr chose that specific antibiotic. I hope you are feeling better soon. Hugs, Terri M.
