Looking for a neurologist/neuropathy specialist in the Tampa Bay area

Posted by timkat86 @timkat86, Aug 23, 2021

Hi everyone - was really hoping to get into Mayo but insurance denied - looking for another physician/clinic that specializes in nerve damage/neruopathy in Tampa but willing to travel. Our neurologist here is of no help, doesnt seem to want to treat/help with this.
My husband has nerve damage/neruopathy that started about 4-6 weeks after he started a bunch of medications last fall. Nobody has ided[ntified what kind of neuropathy he has.

Thanks for any help

Hello!
Good luck with finding a GOOD doctor.
I live in central Florida as well and I am on my 2nd neurologist and will probably be looking for my 3rd.
I do the research and the current one had FANTASTIC reviews on so many sites, but he has been of no help.
I have been searching from Orlando to the Tampa Bay area, also willing to travel.
I can't find anyone!
If you ever need a neurosurgeon, THAT I can help with!
Good luck!

Hello @timkat86, I would like to add my welcome to Connect along with @grandmar and others. I think it's good that you are reaching out trying to learn more about your husband's condition. Here are my two favorite sites for reliable information:

-- Neuropathy Commons: https://neuropathycommons.org/
-- Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy: https://www.foundationforpn.org/

The Foundation for Peripheral Neuropathy has a list of drugs that can cause neuropathy. If your husband is taking any of them, you may want to discuss it with his doctor to see if there are any alternatives -- https://www.foundationforpn.org/what-is-peripheral-neuropathy/causes/other-drugs/

Are you able to share which of your husband's symptoms bother him the most?

Hi Ronnie
I recommend Dr Tuan Vu out of USF/TGH. Probably 6 months wait for an appointment. My previous one was Gierbolini who wasn’t of much help and didn’t encourage in depth testing.

My neurosurgeon is John Soliman.
He is in Lutz ( but has other offices).
813-336-4461
He is not taking new patients at this time, but if you want to, mention my name: Ronnie Ginsberg.
Good luck!

I saw Dr. Tuan Vu at USF Health in Tampa. He was very nice and thorough. There was a six month wait to see him. I hope your husband gets the help he needs.
