Has anyone had a tight band feeling after total knee replacement?
I am 8 weeks post TKR and have had this very tight band around my knee since week one. My Dr at 6 wks says it is normal and will go away. Has anyone else had this and did it go away and when?

Thank you for responding.. my pain is worse today... the tight band is terribly painful. I did get ROM of 114, but I feel this is going down.... stiffer than it has been with alot of pain... My DR appt is the 1st. But I'm gonna call and move this up... Can I ask how long she had her knee replacement before they did the revision??? I know he is going to want to do MUA. But there's more than just scar tissue going wrong!
Yes! Why is this tight band feeling happening so often??
8 or 9 years, but the revision was due to damage from a bad twisting fall, not wear.
My sister in law says she had the tight band on one knee but not the other. It and the pins and needles were mostly gone after a year. She rides either a recumbent or stationary bike every day and walks most days too. At first walking was worse than pedaling.
I haven't had tkr yet, but felt full recovery on my hips, done 2 months apart, took a whole year. And I was only 54.
I don't know if it is, just that people who have it find us on Connect and share their experiences. Who knows how many people out there just breeze through?

I think you are right Sue. People come to Connect to learn more about post surgery experiences and they want answers. That is exactly why I am here. Two orthopedic doctors and 3 different PTs had no answers for me.
Folks from all over come to this site, and it was my prayer that someone knew what this tight band feeling was, and what might be done to help it.
Apparently, those of us who have had it more than 18 months post surgery may not expect any meaningful change. It wasn’t what I wanted to hear, believe me.
I have learned a few things. I’m not alone. There are worse things that can happen post surgery. I can actually live with this.
Didn’t breeze through. Both knees tight banded. Dr says needs to redo them “with more spacing”?
If you don't want to "live with it" are you willing to try a couple more things that others have found helpful for hard-to-resolve issues?
I had unexplained stiffness in my legs after repeated total hip replacements and revisions. I did all the therapy, for many months, but couldn't quite get the total motion I expected.
Acupuncture plus my PT finally did the trick. I can't explain why it helped but it did.
Others here have used MFR myocardial release, to good effect.
Finally, when I had intractable pain in my spine and most of my body, I saw a PT who focused on each impingement used manipulation and MFR to release it, and designed a specific stretch or exercise for that area. I still do them once most days to maintain, or more often when in pain.
None of these is easy to find, and usually requires continued effort over time by you , with periodic "tune ups" by the practitioner. It's worth it for me to keep moving, chasing young grands, traveling and dancing.

Over the past four years I have done all these things, plus Astym, dry needling and MUA. Sadly, nothing has worked. Many thanks to my doctor, PT and chiropractor who tried everything they knew to make this better.
Some days I cope better than others. But have not given up hope that one day some doctor will actually confirm what this is and have a solution.
My Knee replacement is 3 years old. I have full range of motion. However, it feels like there is a tight band around my knee. I also have a tender spot right below my outer knee. My other knee is starting to give me trouble and my doctor is recommending another replacement. I feel the same way you do. It doesn’t make sense to have a 2nd knee replacement and i end up with the same outcome. I think I will pass on it until i get some relief!
I also have that tender spot right below my outer knee. If I bend my knee the wrong way that tender spot becomes an "electric pain" and I have to immediately straighten my leg to get relief. I would wait until your first TKR is satisfactory before getting a second. I am 5 weeks post-op and will need a Manipulation Under Anesthesia in the near future. My ROM is 94 degrees.
