Do aromatase inhibitors (like anastrozole) cause weight gain?

Is there any connection between anastrazole and weight gain?

Hi. This is my first post. Took my first Anastrozole tablet today. Now what? How long does it take to experience symptoms?

Welcome daisygirl45. You may never have unpleasant side affects. It might take months. We are all different and we are all in this battle together. Best of luck to you!

I agree with @jkh , you may never have any side effects to the drug. I went through menopause early with endocrine therapy. You might notice some estrogen related things, although that is more common in premenopausal women than in younger women. But we are all on this crazy journey together, even though our journeys are all different. Can you tell me more about your breast cancer journey? Have you had other treatments?

Taken it for two weeks. Read that it was a fast acting drug— had a one inch black hair on my chin after 5 days. Nothing else. I am craving sweets— unusual for me

I can be grateful, I have not grown any dark hairs. Did you take chemo or radiation?

Hello @suzcook and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Have you stayed on it despite the hair growth? How are you feeling otherwise?

I did not let one hair discourage me. Am not feeling anything noteworthy. Good, because this is a five year medication

Hi. I was dx with “aggressive” high-grade DCIS in March 2021. I had a partial mastectomy in April followed by 20 treatments of radiation in June and July. So, I can answer my first post question 🤣. The side effects came pretty much a day or two later. Joint pain, dizziness, sleepy, and sadness. Currently, I’m on an FMLA (elementary teacher) at least through September and possibly October. Thank you for responding to the post. I had some trouble navigating the site and I thought no one responded so thank you!! 😀

Oh man, I had some mild issues at first but never all of that. I will say I had some off balance feeling occasionally during all of it. But I cannot contribute it to one thing. Except maybe the sudden lack of estrogen in my body. Have these symptoms persisted or have they gotten better? Have you discussed them with your doctor?
