Atopic dermatitis and mosqutio bites
I have never had mosquito bites so bad! Intensely itchy after 5 days even. I've used hydrocortisone cream 2.5%, After Bite, Aspercream, ice and last night resorted to Zyrtec.I don't know if it's me and the AD or just a ferocious variety of insect in SE Michigan. I've been using bug spray, too. Can anyone relate to this? I'm going out of my friggin' mind!

Ohhhh I share your pain…er, your itch! I have never experienced anything like these mosquito bites this year. I’m 2 years post stem cell transplant and not sure if it’s related to that or not for my situation. I even chatted with several of my cohort SCT friends and we’re all having these enormous, half-softball sized bites happening for days afterwards!! One friend lives in Louisiana and I live in Wisconsin. So it’s not just relegated to one area of the country.
I’ve iced, applied hydrocortisone cream, hot spoon trick…all of it! The hot spoon worked the best to the point that I sent for a pricey gadget called Bite Away, which puts a concentrated heat on the bite. That has helped the most. Oh, and cooled Camomile tea bags are really soothing!
One bite was so large on my lower leg that it made my ankle swell! Thought I had an infection. But the area wasn’t hot and I’m still on 2 antibiotics a day so I doubted that. But the itch was more intense than my chemo-aftermath! And that’s serious! LOL. So I took a dose of Children’s liquid Benadryl and went to bed. By morning the swelling had subsided and the itch diminished. But most of the bites, after 2 weeks, if I bump any of the post-skeeter bite sites, they will puff a little and itch again.
Good luck and let me know if you find a solution! I use bug sprays too and hide inside clothing. LOL. They still find a way…. 🦟🩸
It's good hear that I am not the only one! Lori, thank you. I'm still sleepy from the Zyrtec last night, but it dd knock it back. I'll try th hot spoon if I get in trouble again. The hot weather is not over yet.
Good luck!! LOL I really can’t afford to donate any blood to further the bug population! 😂
I find that the Children’s Benadryl, as little a 5ml really helps me out! And I don’t get as sleepy as with Zyrtec.
Thanks for the Children's Benadryl tip. I really appreciate your support, Lori.
Yep it’s bad in Wisconsin this year. Mosquitoes usually ignore me since I’m usually iron deficient (my theory anyway) and I itch like crazy. I’m also having a lichen planus outbreak all over so I don’t know which end is up.
Chiming in as I also have AD allergic reaction since early Aug and no answer on cause(s). Two dermatologist opinions, biopsy, and allergist consult. I’m in Illinois we had heavy cicada emergence late June/ July followed by the cicada mites (they are no see ums) prevalent “biting” in the region. We have a lakehome in SW MI and midge flies were horrible. I also had Covid in earky July, 3rd time and 2 vaxes in 2021. Saw allergist had an eczema prick test on my forearms that flagged mold and egg allergies. The covid, bugs and/ or mold are what I suspect may have caused rash.. Mildew on kayak and foam seat I sat on for two hours, rash broke out on my entire lower back, buttocks, hips and arm a couple days later. What has worked for me are B complex supplements daily, Cetaphil hydrating cream 2x daily, prescription steroid cream 2day, Allegra for day, benedryl at night. Vick’s vapor rub on hot spots works great and aloe vera speeds healing. Nearly 5 months and still itching with a break outs... My histimine seems high now having hair loss in recent weeks could be shedding but a lot of hair. looking for any recommendations also chem free laundry detergents. The “Yuka app” is great resource to scan any skin product or food label for harmful ingredients. Welcome recommendations on this.
