Medical marijuana and restless leg syndrome
Are there any credible unbiased studies available that address the short and long term affects of medical marijuana on sleep issues, including Restless Leg Syndrome? My RLS is severe. Prescription pramipexole no longer controlled my RLS. Adding THC and CBD oil in the past 2 weeks has completely eliminated my RLS for the first time in 12 years. Will it do so long term and will I experience side effects? Any research is welcomed.

Elizabeth- This is so good to hear that the relief that you have sought has found you! I should try some THC in my CBD oil but I'm leary of its effects on my anxiety. I'm going to look at some of the creams that you use for my husband! And for my knee.

Note: using tincture, measured dropper at night, in equal combination, getting no high at all...just pain/anxiety/sleep, etc relief, is what I'm after and this combo in this form does wonders for me. I don't smoke MM. Perhaps there's better control? Don't know, but it works well And, I think it best for most of us to avoid putting some foreign smke,etc in our lungs. I can't, as I have Vasculitis and the lungs are vulnerable. So, tincture.
Merry, have you spoken w/Chris,@artscaping about her thoughts? I think she might add some insight as she has done a lot of research and found a good route for her pain control.

To all who have replied to my original post, thank you. I've not yet read all articles, but I've come to this conclusion. Long term use of MM is not safe, and can cause reduced cognitive skills, and more importantly for me, loss of memory. I took a neuropsych test last week, and am waiting for the results, but I do know, compared to the same test 2 years ago, that my cognitive skills and memory have declined. So my use of MM to help my RLS and sleep apnea must be temporary, long enough to gradually lower or eliminate my pramipexole intake (a dopamine agonist), so that, when needed again, the dosage is minimal. Thanks again to all your comments. They have helped to relieve my frustration over controlling the severity of my RLS.
I have had varying degrees of RLS for more than 40 years and what I have learned is that SUGAR is a big contributor to my problems. Inactivity is to a lesser degree a contributor. Any amount of SUGAR can give me a problem, not only at night but during the day, too. Whether in the cup of coffee, tea, processed foods in containers in the stores, if sugar is in it, it bothers my RLS. I'm not talking about fruit - I eat lots of different kinds fruit most days. Cutting out processed SUGAR completely gives me relief. Adding exercise also gives me, to a lesser degree, relief. I don't take any medications or MM. Don't even know if you're still monitoring this list. But if you are, hope this helps.
I’m a male , 71 years old and I’ve dealt with this since I was a kid. I could be the poster child for RLS. The only time I remember not having problems is when I was smoking a lot of pot. Currently I am taking Ropinirole er 6 mil tablets. Clonazepam and 10 mil methadone and I still cannot go to sleep without a battle at night. It’s really getting to me as two of the meds have depression as side effects and then the sleep situation causes depression as well. I haven’t smoked pit for a long time but I am desperate. Any help would be appreciated. I mean I kick walls when it starts acting up in my feet and arms as well. Like I said ….i could be the poster boy for RLS. Doctors love me because they’re pill pushers. I need help.
