Confused: Lung cancer, pulmonary fibrosis and more

Posted by shamrock5jeg @shamrock5jeg, May 4, 2021

New to this forum. Actually, never tried any type of forum so I really don't know what I'm doing. Anyhow, after reading some of the posts I guess I am not so bad off. I have lung cancer in my right lung, pulmonary fibrosis, peripheral neuropathy, chronic pancreatitis and just developed shingles last week. Am treating skin cancer on my forehead with fluorouracil cream. Need more radiation for Basel cell on my neck. Left lung cancer was treated with SBRT and is "cured".Right lung is not being treated due to the fibrosis. Still function pretty good, Only take 4 meds. Walking is the biggest problem. Want to dance again, walk, climb stairs, drive a stick shift. Want my legs Back! Sorry I rambled on. My heart goes out the others I read about. Wish they could solve all the problems, it hurts to me to read their stories and makes mine so trivial.

Aw, I’m sorry to hear the not so good news. But please keep positive, now that you’re finally able to resume the chemotherapy, that it will do its job and help curtail the proliferation and spread of the cells! Positivity and chemo working together is an awesome team. I’m proof of that! So stay the course and hang in there! You have lots of fishing to do yet!
You’re in my prayers! Lori ☺️

Question: I've had 2/3 rds of my right lung removed, 85% of my left lung removed due to lung cancer. I've had 3 spots they have been watching, with 2 now growing. A third spot is now forming, my last pet scan the spots did not glow, I had a cat scan last week to find this third spot, along with the other two growing about 2-3mm. Now they want to do a pet scan on the 3rd spot to see if it glows, if it does then I will go to have a biopsy. Question: Should I go to Mayo's and have them examine me to see just what in the world is going on?

@fontspec - Good morning and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. This must be extremely frustrating for you! It would be to me.

I have multifocal adenocarcinoma of the lung and have survived for 23+ years. I have had two lobectomies. Not fun, are they?

If you have not been given any explanation of what is going on then, yes, get a second opinion.

How long has this been going on? Do you know what kind of cancer that you have?

Hi Frontspec, I add my welcome. Getting a second opinion is a good idea. If you would like to request an appointment at Mayo Clinic, here is more information and contact numbers http://mayocl.in/1mtmR63

Thank you for the follow up to my dilemma, my first surgery was in 2014, the second in 2018. They have been watching two different spots, which are the ones that have grown. I have adenocarcinoma, sounds like the same as yours. Again, thank you and I am going to be contacting Mayo today.

I did make contact with Mayo last Thursday. I had my records sent to them for evaluation on Friday--13, August. They said they would review my records and get back to me. I did get my pet scan moved to Wednesday 25 Aug. which they said they may want to see as well. How long should I wait to hear back?

I would wait about a week for them to get back to you. What do you think is a reasonable time?

I don't really have any idea what a reasonable time would be.
