Cataract surgery

Posted by metermaidman @metermaidman, Aug 7, 2021

I had cataract surgery on July29. 2021 and my vision isn`t any more! All I see is opaque images that are not recognizable. The surgeon says wait. I think there is something wrong and fear I will lose my vision if I don`t find an answer soon. .What should I do? I`ve tried to get a 2nd opinion but so far nothing.

Hello @metermaidman Sorry to hear of your complications after cataract surgery, I had some complications but not as bad as yours. I would go back to the surgeon and demand an answer, Even if its something beyond his doings, he should know what the problem is. Did they continue to check eye pressure after surgery. My eye pressure was to high and Dr had to take me off the drops, thinks it was because of my extremely dry eyes. Please let me know the outcome, wishing you the best. Sue

in reply to @metermaidman The second Dr you went to should not have given you any other meds because it was too early after your surgery. Lots of Patients gets a film over eye after about a week and the surgeon will use lazer to remove the film, but they usually wait a month before this is done. Did surgeon mention this to you?

@metermaidman I would give it another couple of weeks and if no better, I would try to get appointment at mayo clinic, Thats just my personal opinion. Hope you find solution soon, best of luck.

If you can, I would make an appointment with Dr. Tim Johnson at the University of Iowa. He is an expert in complicated cataract surgery. U of Iowa is ranked 5th in the nation for clinical care. It's terrible that your current surgeon doesn't explain what is happening.

The problem for me is how to get there. I`m single and with my vision now I don`t have much depth perception so to go into an area I`m not familiar with I don`t think I can/or should.

@metermaidman This must be so difficult for you. I think that our vision is our most important sense. Mine is really going downhill because I’ve been on steroids so long.
I can understand why you don’t want to drive somewhere new, I don’t either! Do you have a large medical center or university teaching hospital anywhere near? And a friend who could drive you? Give the hospital a call and explain what’s going on and that you need help. Can you do this and let me know what you learn?

I talked with an eye clinic today in Marquette, Mich and I`m trying to get a referral in Marquette which is only 100 miles from my house. Since I`m a Vietnam Vet the closest big Vet Hospital is in Milwaukee. I have a sister who lives downstate near Ann Arbor, Mich and there is the U of Mich hospital which I`ve used b4 and like, and there is a vet hospital in Ann Arbor too

I have an account with the U of Mich hospital and I sent them an email. They said they would forward the email to their eye care center so I will have to wait for their reply. I also sent an email to my V,A. Dr and will have to wait to see what she has to say.
