I am a 50 year old female who has struggled with iron deficiency anemia for years. Currently, my hemoglobin is normal, but iron stores are low. I am taking 325 mg of iron supplements per day. I am also in the obese category. Is the vaccine safe for me or are there any known side effects or dangers associated with this condition?

Hi Sue. It somewhat answers my question, however I've never had to have transfusions. Thanks so much!

Hi Sonya, I moved your question to the discussion that @rlarmstrong started on the same topic.
The European Hematology Association offers these recommendations for with Hemoglobin disorders, chronic iron deficiency or autoimmune hemolytic anemia

Sonya have you talked to your hematologist about getting the COVID vaccine?
