My stomach is round and bloated, and it makes me look pregnant

Posted by Seeking answers @bosnianbeauty, Jan 10, 2012

I have been having problems with my stomach for quite a while now.

My stomach is always round and bloated ,as if i am pregnant.
I have pain most days and have severe cramps and vaginal muscle cramps/contractions during my period. I also bleed a lot.

I eat healthy, take multivitamins and drink water and no sodas or fruit drinks just fruits and veggies. I know most people have flatter stomachs even those who don't eat as well as me.

I have done research and have come to some conclusions that could fit. I think i might have a uterine fibroid or cyst, something that is making my stomach big.
I also have ugly stretchmarks even though i have never been pregnant and am not pregnant, but at times it looks like it.
If anyone has anything similar or knows anything,i would really appreciate the feedback.

thank you all for your help! i really appreciate it although i am sorry to hear you all have gone through something similar...it's very frustrating. i talked to my doctor earlier and he ordered a CT scan which will give me more peace of mind i think. he also mentioned something about a swallow test down the line. hopefully one of these will reveal something, but in the meantime i'll check into the over the counter medicines. thanks again i will update if anything changes 🙂

Hello,
I have chronic bloating and distention of the abdomen and am very uncomfortable all of the time. I have had a colonoscopy and endoscopy (both negative), have tried a low FODMAP diet for several weeks, with no change. I do take probiotics as well a ginger root and peppermint. I rarely have cramping, except after a bowel movement. After a BM, the distention is more severe for the entire day. My GI doctor is at a lost as to what to do now. It seems much of the GI field is mysterious, and, unfortunately there are no answers for many conditions, including this. Is there anyone out there with similar symptoms? Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
Thank you!
Helen

I suffer from bloating and stomach distention for almost 2 years now! Avoid lactose, gluten, fried food, high Fodmap food, take Metamucil, eat smaller meal, etc. but still suffering! Just had upper & lower endoscopy, doctor hasn't call yet!
Colon sigmoid polyp biopsy "one 3mm sessile tubular adenoma." 3 yrs ago 5 polyps were removed!
Stomach, antrum biopsy "Gastric mucosa with mild gastropathic changes." Don't know what changes! Does anyone know? Thanks!

During my journey I have had so many tests to rule things in our out. Still on my journey but SIBO is probably my root cause. I have been tested for parasites, Lyme diseases, scleredoma, h pylori, c diff, candida, pancreatic enzyme deficiency (EPI). Includes stool test for malabsoprtion and several motility studies (egg test and ballon test) . I even did PT for pelvic floor dysfucntion ( did not help me but helps some). My functional medicine test GI Map is probably one of the best one to date but is exensive and not covered by insurance. I just throw this list out there in case any of these test that have not been performed for you yet. If you can get a prescription for Integrative Therapeutics Physicians Elemental Diet that helps me. Often I use it as a meal replacement when I feel too sick to eat. I flavor it with Stur (fruit punch) with Stevia( I do not eat sugar or artificial sweetners) .I blend it with ice (spring water ice cubes I get at Whole Foods). Here is my "mocktail". It tastes pretty good.

@keetafox ,
What else is in your "mocktail"? Can you share with us? Also, what symptoms were you having to begin this journey? And how
about now? Thanks!

My journey which continues includes all the typical SIBO GI symptoms with sulfur smelling gas bloating and distention mixed constipation and diarrhea undigested food in stool fat malabsorption and worse of all debilitating fatigue. I also have Sjogrens with a lot of other issues but told that did not cause SIBO

I am 34 years old. I have never gain weight just since last 2 years my body shape looks different. My stomach looks pregnant and I have bloating (burp) all the time even without eating, and feeling fatigues. I can’t wear anything tight so I have pain in my stomach.

I tried to check my body and did blood test and CT scan what It’s been found :

I I have Fibroid 2 cm.
They told me this doesn’t cause these symptoms.

I did colonoscopy I have 12mm colon polyp. It’s been removed.
Nothing changes after removing it.

I had Helicobacter pylori and took antibiotics

I have a healthy lifestyle
I walk everyday 8000 steps
Going to the gym 3 days a week
Eat healthy
Tried to quit dairy
Tried low carb Dite
Try to lose wight

But none of the symptoms have changed. Still have pregnant-look abdomen.

I blame wheat for a lot of belly bloat although I don’t know how pronounced your abdomen is. I have told people to cut out the wheat especially white flour products and they have reduced their bellies significantly. I don’t know if this would apply to you or what is causing your burping and fatigue. Just throwing this out as another attempt to alleviate your problem. You do indeed have healthy habits so don’t stop doing what you are doing. I am assuming you have tried the anti burping products on the market.

I am a middle aged male. 6 feet tall and around 125 pounds. I can't gain much weight. In the last 10 years or so I have been unable to increase the calories I consume without getting stomach discomfort. It usually feels like I ate too much or sometimes I get some burning or discomfort in my stomach. In recent years I have found more and more foods and drinks that don't agree with me. I also have problems with constipation.

I have seen a number of dieticians. I am on my fifth GI doctor. I have been treated twice for intestinal bacterial overgrowth. The first time helped a little bit.

I don't think that the doctors have been able to really figure out what's wrong with me. I have had blood tests for different conditions. I had a gastric emptying study.

The doctors have had me try some medications for reflux. None have helped so far. I wonder if this is not the right type of thing to treat my problem.

Has anyone out there had similar problems and have any suggestions for me?
