After radiation: Tracheotomy, feeding tube and hard to swallow

After radiation I cannot even take a sip of water I have a tracheotomy and feeding tube 60 % of the time I suffer even with medication I do not know why my throat bleeds at times I do not know a lot to help myself doctors etc seem to busy and rushed to answer my questions

Good morning Colleen 😊 Yes I’ve read many different ways which all kinda end up the same with removal . He is doing Chemo once a week and radiation 5x a week for 28 days then rest for 6 to 8 weeks and do another pet scan,,if things look good surgeon will remove esophagus. He now has a feeding tube with pump to help with nutrition which seems to be dropping faster daily . That starts today which I pray will help. He is now 156 pounds . I had a feeding tube and feed was by pump in 2014-15. My husband was given instructions while I was in hospital on how to set it up and at same time there was room full of doctors and nurses giving me instructions. Neither one of us came back to our travel trailer remembering everything told us. Thankfully directions from doctors and nurses were on paper. My husband was at a loss on how to set the pump up. I said calm down honey.. we are going to figure this out together. I looked at the bag and it did show how the tubes were to be threaded through. My husband had a phone number from the company representative in area. She talked him through how to punch numbers in for the rate and such. So if you are at a loss when you get the pump call the company or representative. We were suppose to have a nurse come out and show us how to set it up… but it was a week away she was set up to come. I needed nutrition and could not wait for the nurse. We got through it.

I am so blessed to have my husband by my side because I would never have made it this far without him. I do not have cancer… just could not eat enough at the time to recover from an abdominal surgery.

I had a feeding tube and feed was by pump in 2014-15. Yes a nurse is coming out with pump. The hospital and docs did no training on how to flush or when to feed on day of surgery. I’m pretty sure will the havic we caused they will have a different aproach for their clinics from here on out. Thank you

Yes a nurse is coming out with pump. The hospital and docs did no training on how to flush or when to feed on day of surgery. I’m pretty sure will the havic we caused they will have a different aproach for their clinics from here on out. Thank you
