Hi @ms9246
I’m like you in CKD Stage 3b and wanting to eat the right foods to slow progression. I found that if you do a search of Stage 4 CKD diet, there is a lot of information available including lists of foods. When I ask my doctor if I need to be on a special diet he says not yet. I assume that Stage 4 CKD is when we need to make that change. But like you I want to start now. My eGFR has been 34 for the last 2 tests a year apart, so my doctor says it’s stable but all it takes is new Rx or an illness to lower it. Also whenever I get a new Rx I always ask for the Renal dose, because I think doctors sometimes forget to do that. I also have looked up my Rxs online to see what the Renal dose is supposed to be.

@njh I did the same thing as you! I put myself on a renal diet while still at a high Stage 3 level. My drs said it wasn't needed, but I wanted to slow progression of CKD. I knew the cause of my CKD would lower my function slowly, so I gave up potatoes, oranges, bananas, tomatoes to start with, and worked into following a renal diet. I am Stage 4 now, at 22% function. And like you, all medications are weighed against on renal interaction. I am on Gabapentin, but take only 200 mg per day, to ease kidney effect, rather than 3000mg a "normal" person can take!

Thank you so much for all of this information! I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart.
