Anyone had nausea as a side effect of tamoxifen? What helps?

Good morning everyone, I switched to Tamoxifen a year and a half ago because i couldn't tolerate the side effects of the other drugs. I know I've commented here several times that I wasn't having any side effects from Tamoxifen, but now several conditions have appeared. I am 76 years old, so I'm not sure whether these conditions are age-related or due to the drug. I'm having joint and muscle pain, soreness in my hands, legs, and feet and how can I describe my hair??!!?? It's dry and straight, lost all its body. I'd appreciate anyone's posts about your experience with this drug after being on it for over a year.

Good morning. I, like you, did not have any side effects from Tamoxifen until 1 1/2 years into taking it. I had incredible knee pain and swelling last year, some muscle aches, weight gain, and I can totally relate about the hair - what a mess!
I’m 48 and now almost at 3 years of taking Tamoxifen. My dr would like 5 so I’m going to try to make that. I try to stay active as I do think that helps.

@kspicer, thank you so much for your response. You have most of the symptoms I'm experiencing. I'll need to continue taking the drug until January of 2023. I'm grateful for the protection against breast cancer, but I wish I could eliminate the side effects! I am only 5 days in after not being able to take the other 3 AI’s. Unfortunately with these sites and blogs you are going to hear all the negative. Are there any positives out there to share. If so would like to hear them.

I was on Tamoxifen for four and half years. I have factor five so I had to stop taking it. My surgeries were in 2008. I am still cancer free.

I am not sure if I am proceeding in the way my care team would prefer but I have decided not to take the hormonal therapy following a successful lumpectomy. I (thank goodness) got a 2nd opinion at the Mayo breast clinic after I was misdiagnosed at a local hospital. My surgery was successful- clear margins, no lymph nodes affected and the oncologist has already dismissed me as I was considered a stage 0. With all those positive items, I contemplated the importance of going on a hormonal regiment to prevent a 1-2% recurrence safeguard. Shortly after my surgery, my husband was diagnosed with colon cancer. I need to be diligent with his treatment plan and felt I did not want to deal with "brain fog", increased weight gain, mood changes, etc. I do not think the side effects outweigh the risks. I will continue to have mammograms every 6 months and a yearly MRI. After visiting with people on the hormonal medication, they suggested I do not start it...so that is why I declined the meds. Any thoughts from others?
