Recipes, Food Tips, Healthy Eating & More

Posted by Debbra Williams, Alumna Mentor @debbraw, Feb 22, 2019

Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.

Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.

Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!

I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

I knew there were more of us out there!
Anyone liked grilled octopus? Anyone ever tried it? Should be from Spain and only eaten at an upscale or well known restaurant . And if you did and said it was chewy then it was prepared wrong.

What’s the saying? Sisters by another mister? LOL. I’m a honey in my tea person. I’m going to ruffle feathers but oh my goodness, how do people drink Sweet Tea in the south?? I ordered iced tea and being so thirsty I took a big ol’ gulp. The shock on my face made everyone else break out in laughter. I understand why so many people are diabetic now! 😳 Yikes.

Yay A dark chocolate lover! Over indulging on these beauties is why I like chocolate that comes in squares. I don’t buy Costco’s heavenly Bark Thins with pistachios anymore because of all the different size pieces….was eating way too many. I don’t even go near that section of the store anymore. But sometimes I just need 2 squares. I’ll have to find the Slow Burn.
When I made chocolate cake in the past I always added a strong brewed coffee into the batter in place of any water….cake didn’t last long.

LOL. Ditto…I need limits!! These bars come in nicely scored pieces. Just enough to satisfy the chocolate need but not enough to cause me to revert to elastic waist pants.

There isn’t a bad confection in the house! I’m not a fan of creams and I even like theirs! The melt-aways are outstanding. When I had my first transplant birthday I bought an huge array of chocolates and had each wrapped individually for Covid protocol. I felt it wouldn’t be good for everyone in the transplant team area to be dipping into boxes. Couldn’t believe the thank you notes I received asking where the chocolate came from. I had left a card with the info. LOL. My transplant doctor gets a couple of the big bars every time I visit him. 😁

@loribmt,

You really know how to say, "thank you." I'm sure your doctor and the transplant team appreciate your expression of gratefulness!!

I'm afraid my satisfaction level is higher than yours. I wonder what it would be like to be satisfied on candy. In general I dont subscribe to the belief that “If a little bit is good a whole lot more is better.” But when it comes to sweets making an exception seem like the best option.

Oh well, not everyone is blessed with perfectly formed and functioning taste buds. I'm sad you'll never realize what great food tastes like.
Next time I'm in the market for a heavy door stop I'll have you make me a chocolate cake. If it has coffee in it, it will last an eternity around here. Although there is a Sees candy with Mocha in it and my friend says she tastes the coffee but I don't.

Hi @imallears the sponge docks nearby you have excellent grilled octopus. I had it in Europe as well…..very good. I especially like the grilled calamari dinners in Tarpon Springs. My husband and I visit for the Mediterranean diet.
