Suzanne, I added to the title of your post to include your question and am tagging fellow members @kcorvino2290 @washalien @triciapet @turtlegalsandy @astaingegerdm @vacres and @quiteachiver75 who may have experience to offer in how they manage microscopic colitis?

Suzanne, what helps you? What makes things worse or what do you avoid?

@colleenyoung really greasy food sends me to the bathroom fast! I bought a beautiful 1/2 decorated sheet cake from Costco, to celebrate my kindergarten children's end of year and my birthday, and it is a quick bathroom trip after one small piece with icing. Also any amount of fruit juice. Even a fig neuton bar is a laxative. I seem to be having more issues than I was 4 months ago and am wondering if I need to contact my gastroenterologist at Mayo about another round of Budesonide. With having 3 immediate family members pass from pancreatic cancer I get scared with any changes to my bathroom routine.

Listen to your body is the BEST advice. Eating low or minimal fat. Eating minimal sugar in any processed form (fruit ok, but not fruit juice). The triggers vary, the foods and substances that trigger it can be many. I’ve had this condition for a very long time. I have tried Rx but my best results have been achieved through being aware of how my body (Gi tract, joints, energy vs fatigue, and even brain (thought clarity) respond to what I eat or drink. Sorry I cannot give you a simple, easy answer, the same kind of answer I longed and long for. But really feel confident you will find what is best for you, setting your priorities, working with your doctor, and perhaps a dietitian as I did and am. Also, find a relaxation technique that works for you (deep breathing, yoga, meditation, etc.) because stress can be a trigger also. Best wishes on your management journey. Complete control may or may not be reached BUT absolutely greater control will be achieved with far less disruptions in your life. Good luck.

I have Collagenous colitis which is microscopic and I’m staying healthy by eating Activia taking a 20 billion probiotic and 1 tablespoon of psyllium husk or Metamucil in water every morning

I was on budesonide for a couple of years until my skin got so think that it started to peel off in pieces if I did so much as brush against a piece of furniture. Getting off it after such a long time can be difficult, as your worst symptoms can come back. I weaned myself gradually from it by going on Colestipol plus perhaps 1 budesonide when needed, and now am doing pretty well. Colestipol does help, but it ties me to my kitchen timer several times a day.

Thanks for the heads up on budesonide. I was on it for about 6 weeks at the most. Haven't taken it since December. My stand by is lomotil when needed. Hopefully I won't need budesonide again, or at least not for awhile. I need to stay away from greasy food and I will probably be okay.

Meds are best. No sugar, and Atkins type diet. Whole Foods, carbs are ok but veggies may be hard.
