Hi mdoll. Each case is different, I’ll offer my own perspective that may or may not apply. I am stage IV, and I am fortunate that my cancer is under control through a targeted therapy. There is virtually no evidence of the disease on CT or PET scans. The CTs aren’t perfect, they are very good at showing masses, but they don’t show cancers at a cellular level. My CTs look great, but I know there are still cancer in my body that would have a big party if I stopped my treatment.
Personally, given the opportunity, I would want to make sure that it was really all gone. I wouldn’t want to go through it all over again down the road when it had had a chance to spread.
