Hematoma years later?

Posted by cjfutrell @cjfutrell, Jun 13, 2021

Hi everyone I don’t want to waste anyone’s time as I don’t think it’s a serious enough issue but a few years I suffered an injury on the back of my thigh. It bruised very badly worse than I’ve ever seen. I thought I had broke the bone in my leg but Ot eventually began healing. I believe I had a hematoma from the injury and now years later I still have a decent sized lump that’s purplish in color near the center. There isn’t any noticeable pain, slight pain if I were to squeeze the area. The exact location is below my right buttocks.

@cjfutrell, Have you ever discussed the injury with your doctor? Even though there is no noticeable pain unless you squeeze it some you still might want to get it checked out. Here's some ideas of what it might be and possible treatments.

I strongly suggest you see your doctor. While not meaning to scare you, my son as a teenager severely bruised his shin. Weeks later the swelling had gone down and the discoloration disappeared but he had a small lump on his shin. When I took him in to my Doctor for a routine exam before school he noticed the lump. Upon explaining what had happened he immediately sent us to the hospital for an X-ray. They found that an infection was occurring just slightly below the skin and edging toward the bone. If it gone on any longer he might have lost his leg. I don’t remember how it was treated but he was in the hospital overnight. I thought my doctor was overreacting at the time. God bless Dr. Sia.

The fact that you are here asking for advice means that you are concerned at this point. It may be unrelated to your injury or something as simple as a cyst that has to be drained,
There is only one way to find out.

Let us know your decision.

I have the exact same thing. Happened a yr. ago. Unfortunately I’ve got a dimple underneath. Kept thinking it would go away hasn’t.

Hi, i have exactly the same as you 1 year on from a large haematoma that covered from just under my bum all the way down to the back of my knee. It cleared up in a few weeks but i was left with the same size bruise as you have still with a noticeable lump.
Did you go to the doctors and what did they say? My doctors are so rude and really hate going there
Hoping you reply! Thank you
