This is a title in PubMed from Jan 2022. Mayo would not allow me to post the link. “Severe aplastic anemia after COVID-19 mRNA vaccination: Causality or coincidence?”
This EXACT scenario has just happened to my father. He had his last booster 9/21. Over the last several months he has been short of breath, tingling extremities, dizzies, fatigue. After being passed around to 3 specialists who thought he might have vertigo, someone thought to check his hemoglobin. It was 6! After two pints of blood, three iron infusions, he is only back to an 8.9. Colonoscopy and endoscopy showed no internal bleeding either.
I'm having this problem too. I had the Moderna shot.
I did not realize until I read this post. I am going through what you mentioned about your husband. My Hemoglobin dropped to 10 (from 12) after two Moderna doses and a booster. My doctor ordered bunch of tests for other GI issues and he found out that the hemoglobin had dropped to 8.7. As a result I went through endoscopy, colonoscopy and capsule endoscopy but nothing was found. In the mean time I received five infusions of Iron and going to see a hematologist. It just came to my mind that covid vaccine is the only variable so I started searching internet. I think it does not get reported because it is slow and does not get detected until you feel something is wrong.
I was reading you post about your husband.
My 25 year old son is having the same issues. We brought him into the hospital last September, he was weak, pale and his feet was swollen. Doctor check him and found his hemoglobin was very low. 5,2/should be 13.
Sent him to emergency there he received 3 blood transfusion, iron infusion and all kind of test. However he did test positive earlier in the year around February, he hasn’t had any Covid vaccine.
I just read something that the Coronavirus pulls the iron out of blood. I need to look deeper into that.
Since this my so. Has had 20 plus iron infusions and has to have us hemoglobin check regularity. This is definitely a long process, once healthy young man .
Thank you for sharing. I too am experiencing low Ferritin and Iron levels post Moderna Covid-19 vaccination. I am a 48 year old former trauma nurse for 9 years, now vascular access nurse for 17 years and have never had anemia, not even with my two full term pregnancies. My first Moderna dose was 8/24/2021. I experienced sever fatigue, heart palpitations and short of breath with minimal exertion. Multiple negative Covid-19 PCR test (I was PCR tested twice a week to be able to work). Second Moderna vaccine 9/21/2021. I experienced the same symptoms as the first dose. This time I had labs drawn. Iron level was 22 (low) with normal ferritin of 9, normal Hgb and Hct. Third Moderna dose 3/2/2022. Repeat labs 7/11/2022 Iron 15, Ferritin 4 Hgb 11.1 Hct 36.9 Severe Iron deficiency anemia. Colonoscopy, endoscopy and pelvic ultrasound scheduled for next week. Capsule endoscopy to follow if the previous exams are normal. I haven't had any abnormal menstrual cycles or GI symptoms. Just the severe fatigue and winded feeling with normal activities and talking. When I googled information on google scholar there are no studies or papers reporting this. Only that the vaccine is less likely to be effective if Iron levels are already low. This seems very coincidental. Hoping for truthful answers for all of us soon.
The same thing happened to me after receiving the Pfizer vaccine . I have been searching for information on this. I do not have a history of anemia either. At the age of 43 I was feeling very tired and having a hard time getting through exercise, getting out of breath easily, and feeling dizzy. My doctor ran tests (total iron, CBC, full thyroid, tests for autoimmune disorders, and Epstein barr) everything was normal except for iron levels. I eat red meat 1-2X per week. I have very light periods that last 2 days. It's very weird to me that I suddenly became anemic. I assumed it was from the vaccine. I started on OTC gentle iron and had a recheck four months later. Iron levels are now normal. There were people that developed aplastic anemia. Perhaps some people are developing anemia and not something as severe as aplastic anemia.
Hi! Can I ask how your husband is doing? My husband is a replica over a year later….he has seen 4 specialist and no answers.
I had the same thing! My iron dropped so low I had to be hospitalized and given transfusions. They ran all the same tests as your husband + more and never found anything. Never once did they say it could be related to the vaccine. I had Pfizer too. 2xs + booster. Oddly enough, I started to feel a bit better after I caught Covid!
My mom received both Pfizer shots and then the booster and is experiencing the exact same thing right now. Like your husband she never had issues with low iron or red blood cell count. She is 73 years old.
She is currently in the process of getting the upper and lower endoscopy scheduled. Have you found anything out on your husband?
