Need help transferring my care to the Mayo in Phoenix/Scottsdale
I am a patient at the Cleveland Clinic that is faced with having to transfer my care to the Mayo in Phoenix/Scottsdale Arizona. This is because my husband can no longer be my caregiver and I will be moving to live with my brother.
I have Lynch Syndrome and for the last 30 years I have battled cancer 8 times leaving me with a short bowel. I have a peg tube to aspirate my stomach, an illyostom, 2 nephrostomy tubes, a Hickman catheter and my total nutrition is supplied by TPN. I currently have a home Healthcare nurse and aide that come twice a week.
I am so overwhelmed with this task, what do I do?

I will call on Monday. Im beat today and this will give me some more time to get some info on insurance so I can ask specific questions. Do you know what electronic medical records system the Mayo uses?
I completely understand. Better to do it on Monday. Mayo Clinic electronic medical records system is EPIC.
That is fabulous! Cleveland Clinic uses EPIC. I should be able to make my records available through this system.
Well I called today and was basically told that nothing can be done until I have insurance in place and that the one department that I need to stay alive is not taking new patients and that I had to have a PCP in place in order to get any additional doctors to help me and that this would take months do I should call the one office they said would deal with Medicare to get on their wait list. They could not even tell me if the insurance I was looking to get would work there. I am just amazed at how difficult the Mayo makes it to get help.
So that is how I made out today.
Graphicedge, this does seem unnecessarily complicated. What comes first - the chicken or the egg?
Mayo Clinic has established arrangements with several different types of health care insurers. Read more here: https://www.mayoclinic.org/patient-visitor-guide/billing-insurance/insurance/accepted-insurance
I wonder if it would be best to call Patient Account Services and get your insurance queries answered first. Here's the number: 844-217-9591
Thanks, I will call them and see what happens
