COVID vaccines and neuropathy

Posted by cue @cue, Feb 15, 2021

I am 85 with small fiber neuropathy that is getting worse. My neurologist thought it would be a good idea for me to wait with the covid vaccine and not be first in line to see how it affected other people with neuropathy. Probably because it is a new technology. Has anyone had a problem with neuropathy after receiving the vaccine? If so, which vaccine?

I had the J& J & was just fine.
I have neuropathy too. I am 71 & my legs & feet are in pain all the time. Do you take any meds & what kind? Is there anything out there for pain in the feet & legs that you know of?

I take effectively one OxyContin APAP325 every 4 hours, maximum 4 daily. One side effect is hardened stool so I take one over-the-counter stool softener as well, Oxy can become addictive so self discipline is essential to no not than 4 daily. Not all doctors will prescribe it due
To the addiction risk. It works well for me. Good luck

Received the first Pfizer dose 2 April, the second 22 April. No physical side effects whatsoever.

I still have intermittent pain at the site of the injection. When it hits it really hurts. My previous neuropathy symptoms I had in my legs and feet are more intense since the Modern vaccine, especially at night. Since two people I know have died from COVID I guess it is better to have the side effects than death.

Yes, doctors do not want to admit it but it helps IMMENSELY. I am on an opioid patch and it has changed my life. I have been on the same dose for the past three years with no problems. Constipation can be solved by taking 500mg minimum, of Magnesium every night. Other than that absolutely no side effects from that medication.

Good morning - I had a major inflammatory reaction to both doses of the Pfizer vaccine, as well as the quadravalent flu vaccine last fall. I managed the pain with anti-inflammatory gel (Voltaren) and essential oils for several weeks each time, and when it was apparent it was not going to get better, a short course of steroids finally knocked it out 3 months after the second Covid injection.
I too was in the "better to have side effects..." so I am glad I got the vaccine.

What essential oils and how did you use them? I do have the Voltaren also. I will definitely try that when I have flare ups!

Suzanne - my favorite combination is a variety of oils with anti-inflammatory properties - I use 12 drops each - peppermint, clove, copaiba, wintergreen, eucalyptus, black spruce, and 6 drops each - frankincense & helichrysum (if I have them.) I put in a roller with an equal amount of "carrier" oil (I use grapeseed.)
When I have pain, I roll on the oil, then spread the gel over it and rub them in together. Each seems to enhance the other.
This also helps sore knees, feet & hands from arthritis. I don't know if it might help neuropathy pain, let me know if it does

Yes I have! It’s caused neuropathy in my arms and feet and neuralgia burning on my face and scalp. It didn’t happen until I had the shot.

I can't take any pain killers. I have a bad stomach & everything burns even when drinking water so I am living in this pain cold turkey except for a little marihuana here & there.

This happened to me too. I developed neuropathy 2 yrs ago after taking Levaquin. It improved after about a year and I was no longer on any medication for it. Other than occasional mild flares if I overexerted, it was a non-issue. I got the first Moderna shot Jan 5 and within 6 hrs my feet started to burn. Within 8 hrs it was nearly my entire body and it did not go away. I saw my PCP and said although neuropathy isn't an expected reaction to the vaccine there are too many unknowns to know. She wouldn't advise on the 2nd dose because there are too many unknowns. I ended up not getting the 2nd dose. Unfortunately I still have the neuropathy all over. I've searched my brain to find another variable to blame, but there just isn't one that I can see. I'm now back on gabapentin 3x a day. I did report this through the vaers system. I hope in time things calm and it's not permanent. Every individual is unique and rare doesn't mean impossible, which medical providers often forget. In no way do I want to sway anyone from the vaccine. We all have to choose based on our own health history, risks, etc. My family and friends who received it had no problems. But I did want to share my experience.

After my first dose I had a small bout of burning and tingling over my body and my second dose of Modernia sent my body in to full blown neuropathy and burning on my face and scalp. Something inside me told me not to get he second shot but my previous Dr. is a big Pharmaceutical guy and my family and friends talked me into it. I’m paying a private Dr. that said the shot has caused all my problems and I definitely should not have gotten the second one. My body is attacking itself and my nervous system is a wreak. Please pray and do your research before taking. I so wished I did. 💕
