A question for all you Smoothie experts
As a newbie Smoothie maker, can I add acidic fruits such as oranges or pineapple to a smoothie that contains dairy products, or will it curdle the mixture? Also, can I add frozen spinach (or even other veggies) to a fruit smoothie, to get more vitamins? Being deprived of so much in my diet right now, smoothies seem to be working for me!

@johnbishop Hello John. As usual, you are a veritable encyclopedia of knowledge! Thankyou for the smoothie links. Everyone has been more than helpful. Laur
Thanks for the kind words Laurie. I am just fortunate enough to have learned how to find available information on the Internet and have a lot of time on my hands 🙃
@johnbishop 🤣 AND, you are humble to a fault! Love you. Hugs.

We all happen to like both sashimi and sushi but know it is not everyone’s taste. Just so happens my entire family including the grandkids love it. I had ahi poke tuna last night but I put it over brown rice. Our local Sprouts sells it and it sells out fast. You may like sushi better but I know you won’t try it because it is also raw. Do you eat any type of fish at all?
I will leave the octopus out of the smoothie. Prefer it grilled because it tastes like steak tidbits. I don’t drink that many smoothies. When I make them I am usually on the go and sip it over a couple of hours.
Making a normal meal tonight lol.
Don’t even know what thread we are on but if it’s the walking one I have been doing my 2.5 miles every morning. Now that it’s getting more humid in the mornings I will probably go out when the sun starts to rise. The humidity and heat here drives everyone indoors in the afternoon for a siesta.

Nope, nothing raw for me. I don’t like the texture of the sashimiI had plus NO taste. I like sushi as long as it’s vegetable sushi. The only fish I eat is tuna. I either have tuna sandwiches or put it on top of my salad. Sometimes I get a French roll one of those long French rolls and mix tuna sandwich bread and some sweet pickles together and spread it on top of that and then put the slicer to a cheese on and put it in the oven or under the broiler and enjoy those.
I have eaten smoked salmon which isn’t all together too awful. At least I got it down without it coming back up. I had a flaky white fish but it didn’t have any flavor at all. The raw tuna I had was real squishy, I didn’t care for that at all. In Japan there is some kind of poisonous fish they eat raw and the chef has to have a special license to prepare it. I forgot how many people die every year from eating it. Do you know what Mochi is? I like that. Naturally, its a dessert. Rice cake pounded into a paste and filled with good stuff. I like the the peanut butter filled ones. Daikon is good too, pickled Japanese radish. think I’m too much of a coward to try octopus although if it taste anything like steak and has a consistency that is similar I’m wondering if I might like it. I never thought I’d like alligator either but it wasn’t bad at all.
2.5 miles every day, that’s impressive. I walked out for a few times but it’s a rare occasion. I walk at least that far when I go to Santa Cruz going to the different candy stores, Talk about an incentive to walk!
Well with high temperatures and the humidity especially you don’t have to worry about cooking for me. I won’t be moving in next door. I can’t tolerate humid weather. Im sure your heart broken😜

Hi,
Never heard of Mochi but looked it up and I have had Daikon. Raw tuna should not be squishy. You may have not had it in a good place. I have had so-so sushi and spectacular sushi. The best octopus is from Spain. Again, and this is always at upscale restaurants, I have had good and not so good grilled octopus. But one bad experience with a new dish and you won’t want to try it again. I wouldn’t attempt to cook it. The best octopus I have had so far is in Orlando and the all time best sushi was in a Japanese nightclub in Las Vegas. The best cucumber martini is also in Orlando at an Italian restaurant.
I tried Aperole...a spritz type of Italian aperitif also in Orlando that was so good...has a little vodka in it. I liked it so much I ordered one this past Sunday at a decent Italian place in Tampa that was a disappointment.
I guess the moral of this narrative is that you have to keep trying different places .
I love smoked salmon on a bagel with cream cheese and a red onion. Again all smoked salmons are not equal.
A lot of white fish is mild and may need sautéing in some butter and garlic and other seasonings for flavor...you don’t need a lot. My favorite is a mild fish from Australia called Baramundi. It comes frozen in nice sizes in a large bag from Costco. I leave it out to room temp salted with pink Himalayan salt and then sauté in some butter and EVO, garlic paste and a Dill combo seasoning I have. Made this two night ago with thin spaghetti. When the fish was done, I took it out of the pan and threw the pasta into the same pan with some baby spinach and soaked up all the yummy butter and oil combo. Oh my.
Anyhow, I don’t blame you for not wanting to come to Humid Florida but would love to have you as a neighbor. I would have such fun busting your chops and making you try new things.
We do have some gorgeous months here but this “bloody humidity” is so draining. Some people love it.

“I would have such fun busting your chops and making you try new things.”
I wouldn’t last out the week between the humidity and the unique foods you’d cram down my gullet.

John, do you ever all any king of supplement re your neuropathy to your smoothie? Is there anything that will be helpful we can add? I bought some Garden of Life protein powder like Sue @sueinmn uses, and another one that has seeds and other goodies for the digestion which I definitely need. I think they're at the front door now, actually, so I'll make one this afternoon for dinner. BTW: these are meals for me, not supplemental to meals. I plan to get some beets and work on those, too, since they are so full of antioxidants and other good things.
I plan to begin smoothies again as a mainstay of my diet. I did that a couple of years ago and was more energetic and generally felt better. Got ill and stopped 'cause of the extra effort required. But, I'm making the effort now as I'm not eating properly due to esophagus swallowing issues, reflux, so many foods I can't eat....live in Florida for goodness sakes and can't eat citrus! Have a lemon cocktail tree on the patio and gobs of huge, grapefruit sized lemon/limes every spring, can't eat them! Can they work in a smoothie w/o the same side effects as eaten directly??????
Also, I found some frankincense and myrrh in coconut oil balm - Wise Men Healing Balm, neutripure.com. I used it last night and this morning on my feet and legs re neuropathy. And, on hands/wrists for arthritis. It actually helped! Very lovely fragrance, light, and does wonders for my overly dry skin. Also, got some balm for pain relief, same company. I'll report on that soon....
thanks for all you do, my friend. You are a special person and help so many of us. Thank you!
Blessings and get started with the smoothies again. I know if I put some supplement you suggest it'll help this neuropathy and arthritis!

Elizabeth @ess77, I used to add fresh ginger and turmeric along with my green breakfast smoothie which was parts of an apple, some grapes, handful of spinach and some ice cubes for water and blended it all together. I wasn't very careful and just made them for awhile by how it tasted the day before, sort of like my science experiment for the day 🙂 It really does not take too big of a piece of turmeric or ginger to make it undrinkable for me.
It was similar to the green smoothie in the list that originated from Dr. Terry Wahls I listed earlier in the discussion - https://www.thehealthy.com/food/recipes/paleo-smoothies/
I'm glad that @imallears and @jakedduck1 aren't discussing sushi (raw fish) in regards to smoothies anymore!
