I just came across this website and the information about Prozac. I thought some of you may be interested in this information, so I thought I should pass it on. The site is Very Well Health (www.verywell.com) and they have lots of great information for you to read.

What is a “therapeutic” dose of Prozac? I recently went from 20 to 30 mg and don’t feel a difference. Talking about going to 40 in a month of I still feel poorly. I too back this up with Clonazepam as needed (2-3 times a week). I don’t want to control anxiety, I want to cure it. I also faithfully meditate, which certainly helps. I have no depression thank goodness.

I take 40 mg Prozac and clonzepam and a few other adjunct meds. I have been told 80 mg is the max dosage of Prozac. I have both depression and anxiety. I believe I inherited this. Although, if I had a healthier upbringing I may have been able to overcome without meds. In my early 20’s I started having panic attacks that changed my life. I am just happy to find something to help. Life is not perfect, but with the right medication it can be much better. It is not always easy to get on right meds. Finding the right prescriber helps.

Is that dosage working well for you? If so, I’ll ask to up mine a notch. And do you need the cl every day to feel well?

Really awesome. I think I am going to ask my Psychiatrist to give me Wellbutrin in place of Valium

Don’t try to taper too fast! Slow is the key to a successful taper! Tapering too fast will most definitely bring on withdrawal symptoms you don’t want to go through. Stay the course.

It has been a long time since I looked at this site and read what everyone has remarked about drugs. I took Prozac for about 15 years and the Dr. took me off of it gradually as he said it was time. I didn't take Prozac for years after that and tried didn't meds to keep my anxiety level down. I was on Xanax for a while and it really helped me. I believe it was in my head though, that if I had Xanax in my purse, then I would be all right. It worked. The only problem was I was getting addicted to it and would panic if I had one or two pills left. I wasn't on any med for a while and then I started again with the panic attacks. I did end up in a hospital in the Psychiatric ward as I went totally crazy and wanted to do all kinds of things to end my life. It was such a terrible time for me as I felt I didn't belong with these weird people. I did get to feel differently about them though. Anyway, I was put back on Prozac. That was some time ago. For the past four months, I have slowly been getting myself off the Prozac and I succeeded in doing this. Prozac free for about two weeks and bang there was the anxiety coming back. So I am back on 40 mg. a day and I am feeling pretty good. I really do believe now that I will be taking Prozac for the rest of my life. The anxiety and panic attacks are so terrible, aren't they? I too have been diagnosed with General Anxiety Disease.
