I have taken clomipramine/anafranil for almost 30 years, to treat an anxiety disorder related to OCD. I have now worked on getting off the medication, with the support of my doctor and seem happy with that decision. My question is, after being on the medication for so many years, how long will the various withdrawal symptoms last? I have heard and read on some sites that ?being on an antidepressant for an extended period can impact on the length of time the symptoms last.

Hi AJ @falcon27, and Welcome! 30 years is definitely a significant time on one medication. I am happy it worked for you for so many years and I am pleased to hear that you are coming off of your medication in an appropriate way with the help of your doctor.

I would like to invite members like @fighter, @ellens, @rivergirl8243, @marye2, and @basslakebabe19 who have also discussed OCD and certain medications. Perhaps their experience can lend some clarity on how far out withdrawal will last.

@falcon27 May I ask why you decided to taper off the medication? Was it no longer working or you just feel it is no longer necessary?
