What's outside of your picture window today?

Posted by John, Volunteer Mentor @johnbishop, Nov 25, 2020

As we get ready for the real winter to show up and COVID-19 still playing a major part in our lives I like to spend moments of my day de-stressing about what's going on in the world today. All I have to do is look out the window and observe some of natures beautiful creatures, how they interact and ponder how small it makes my troubles seem. Sometimes I may even get the opportunity to take a photo or two. How about you? Anything going on outside of your window(s) that you want to share?

For those members that have the ability to size your photos before you upload them to the discussion, may I suggest using the following sizes:
– 500 x 335 pixels (landscape)
– 210 x 210 pixels (square)

@parus I am up before most of the birdies today. The blue jays and Stellar jays are fat and sassy, the family of woodpeckers have been learning to fly, and I expect to see goslings before too long. Seem to not be in sync with the deer and their babies right now; they are wandering through when I am not near a window. But we do have a mated pair of bald eagles who have been making circle in the sky. On Sunday the one came down fairly low, so I squeaked to her, watching her turn a tighter circle and peer down at me!

Hello @artist01

I think I found the poem you were thinking of regarding robins. Here is the link, https://discoverpoetry.com/poems/robin-poems/

If you go to poem #24, you should find it.

@hopeful33250 Hi Teresa. I think you've saved the day! I went to sleep trying to remember what I learned in Grade 3, and I woke up still racking my brain in search of those words. My cell phone won't bring up your site, but my computer will, later today when my energy is up. Thanks a big bunch, Teresa. Hugs, Laurie

@artist01 Glad I could help, Laurie. There's not much worse than having something stuck in your head and not being able to finish it!

Well, pooh! I just lost the entire message I was almost ready to send!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How does that happen?

Lori, this is fantastic! They are so precious, adorable, such wonderful parents...I love this relaxing, peaceful snippit of your life and I thank you again and again and again! You're a gift that keeps on giving, my dear!

Well, get ready. Here's my day....
I got 2 nice big boxes from Chewy.com that now owns my bank account...the last additions to my bird feeders and other gifts for my visitors. I got a lovely, fun yellow metal w/black mesh feeder. a copper feeder w/2 seed compartments you can use different seed if you want...another metal mesh for shelled peanuts, some no throw away food and fun. All ready to go out in the morning and reorganize the tree. And the plants....spent way too much time in Lowes' yesterday, got a sprinkler timer and new flag for out front. No plants. Wasn't happy w/what I saw and am being choosy.

This morning my plumbers arrived at 8 and left this afternoon at 2:30. They were here to do my 3 bathrooms, install the vanities/sinks, pedestal sink in half-bath, use all the goodies I bought last year and stored in my extra bedroom all this time. I was finally getting started on the reno!

The owner of the company will be by tomorrow to give me proposal on redoing the master, completely...remove tub, replace w/walk-in shower. Wanted to do that forever, decided not, then yes. Also, when removing the upstairs guest vanity/sink, they found a crack in the iron pipe from the sink, toilet, downstairs to the living room wall to 2' from the slab. So, tomorrow will be a big proposal for the 2-story repairs, cutting into upstairs walls, living room and half-bath walls. Then, I get to replace walls and ceilings and add that and painting, new ceilings, ++++.......to my reno.....

So, I have a huge plumbing repair to handle immediately. Before any reno work is done. Interesting, I had the upstairs guest sink repaired 3 times last year, by other companies. Paid about $300+ each time. Well, silver lining, now I have a good plumber.

I didn't feel well today since I overdid yesterday after the Mayo visit, at Lowes'. Plumbers at 8 a.m., up/down stairs 6 times today, laundry, garbage out, and I'm fine. Very tired, but ok. Amazing, my friends. Thinking. Meditation. Watching my bird visitors. Putting it all in perspective. I'm calling the bank tomorrow, to get a reno loan and proceed with my work. I will get it done, now and finished and will enjoy my home updated and the way I've planned for so long. I WILL get it done.

Oh, really important!!! I had my very first yellow finch today! First ever! It was so precious, on the window feeder and hopefully it and it's family/friends will be back tomorrow and become regulars. I also have others I need to identify. Woodys were back all day with cardinals, mourning doves, huge blue-jay was back, and others. I'm in love with every one of them and soooooo thankful.

May you all enjoy your evening, sleep well and be blessed with peace and joy. Please add several extra prayers and good thoughts my way......

What a treat outside my window. The lingering cold weather has resulted in having Balitmore Orioles and Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks. I thought I had heard an Oriole so halved an orange and put it out. Yes, I did hear an Oriole!!! Unusual to see these beauties as well as the Grosbeaks that were voraciously devouring the suet thus attracting smaller birds to glean the crumbs from the patio. A most delightful and refreshing morning.

You are having a special day for sure! That may be the rose-breasted grosbeak family who visited me on the way up north a few weeks ago. Such lovely birds....I've never had an oriole, ever, but just read in Birds and Blooms about attracting them. Don't think I'm going that route....I've spent all I dare on these little guys and don't have anymore room for feeders or water or baths....do have a fountain for them and for me. It's coming...my fountain my fiance and I bought at Atlanta market years ago was knocked over by chasing squirrels last year, in pieces. I just replaced it with something to provide the moving water and lovely, relaxing sounds.

That's it now. The birds and all my little visitors will make do with one of the best feasts available in the Southeast!!!! At least in my neighborhood.....so, it's time to enjoy it all now and clean up the rest of the plants, add the little stone wall and pavers....hopefully before the end of spring.

Life is so full of good things. Not so good things are abundant, but I am choosing to focus on the good.....may have to hunt, but something's there!

Waiting for call from plumber, from the Condo Association manager whom I called yesterday to see if the association may perhaps cover the cracked cast iron pipe surprise I got yesterday....I pray this is their responsibility....I was President of the association for several years, worked on board for other years, but can't remember what the docs say and pray, pray,, pray.....the work will be cumbersome, expensive, messy, destroy several walls and ceilings....but, that's just that. So, off we go, Another day!

Blessing, elizabeth

Teresa, that’s the one! I can still see my 8 year old self standing up in front of the class reciting that poem. I lived in Winnipeg at the time, so very cold in the winter, and the whole class was saddened by the plight of that poor little robin. Thanks so much. Hugs, Laurie

Well, Teresa, I'm definitely not the energizer bunny! Don't even have a bunny hop in me, ever, at all....but, I am so much better this year than in the last 10+ years, with diagnoses and treatment improvements, off so many serious meds and learning how to adjust my thoughts and focus and use my brain for help with my life......it's been amazing. What changes in my attitude, thusly in my body, and my entire life. And, God is in control, so I am able now to do what I can to get this life together, God does the rest and gives me the support I need.

Today is total rest, physically. I'm still upstairs in my bedroom, on the laptop and making calls for the reno work and for my son. I'm basically his sec. Helped him today with re-scheduling botox , eye exam & detailing his little car, S2000 from 2001, convertible that was flooded when he was in hospital and I couldn't raise the top. His HS friend came over next day, soaked up the inch of water inside, started the engine, and covered it.....now it's filled with mold and needs special detailing. That poor man can't get a break in this life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm helping him with this, via phone. Found the best, reliable detailer. Getting pretty good w/online researching and thinking through problems. Now, we have to get it there! I pray this car is ok. He has precious little fun and good in his life, but this car is one of those things -from his law years. So, it must be ok.

I will stay here in my recliner for another hour or so, then downstairs to do what I can....mail, put out new bird feeders, enjoy my friends as they feast. Quiet day but productive. By nature, I've always done several things at once, the only way I could get through the day with my job or shop and home and son....same as you and everyone else used to be. I now am thrilled with where I am, able to do what I can do that day at that time. It's good and love getting some projects started, again. hope to finish some?

Remember, this reno project/projects have been in the works for years...since before I met my fiance. We were just getting started, again, when he died in a car crash and since it's all been on hold in some way. Now, I'm doing physically/mentally/emotionally better and can get started....again.

So, that's the story. Bless you and enjoy your spoons.....yes, used a bunch yesterday. No choice, actually. But, I did rest between the times needed to discuss, listen, see, supervise or cry...no, no tear, just quiet thinking, listening and moving forward.

@ess77, Elizabeth,
How nice that you are feeling so much better and can be more active! I so enjoyed your post. Keep up all of the good work, I'm sure your son appreciates having his own personal assistant.

Yes, he does most of the time. I'm careful to choose my words carefully so he doesn't get worried I'm invading his space or trying to run his life. Quite a balancing act. At 52. he's his own man. As a disabled man who often needs help but doesn't want it, especially or particularly from his mother, and often doesn't realize he needs the help, he still needs me. I'm all he has. We have a brick wall we must get over to attempt some normalcy....HA! Haven't used that word for his or my life in forever, nor will I...

Today he has a friend visiting, who has a young son, is a musician/computer person and a lot in common with my son. They met when he was doing better for a few months, then he went down and hasn't seen him for some time. It's fantastic he has someone who will share and spend some time, show interest in this good man. He needs this, so I agreed to help out today at his request. We rescheduled some things so he could visit......so pleased!

The last time this fellow visited, he fixed my son's computer, set up the new system he had but couldn't physically do himself. He set up a sound system for him and scheduled housekeeping as well....something my son insists he will do but never gets to it.....So, obviously, I'm thrilled for a lot of reasons!

This afternoon, I've been hit hard with another sinus attack! Pretty bad, so the laptop light is too bright and this will be it for a while. On the right side, again. It may be related to the esophageal reflux, which I had this morning....I'll get the sinus eye/face mask I ordered, heat it up and crawl in bed....now.
Blessings all. elizabeth
