Some of the members of the Gratitude Discussion Group were interested in having a place to share recipes and food ideas. I’m hoping that we can use this thread as a place to have that kind of discussion. I’d love to hear your ideas for quick meals, comfort food, healthy snacks, and more.
Personally, I’ve just been through a bad reaction to one of my medications that left me with a very queasy stomach. I would love to hear ideas – or recipes – that might be used when you need to get something on your stomach, but don’t want to overdo it.
Hopefully, this thread will even be a place where we can share recipes for special treats and yummy rewards. It doesn’t always have to be healthy!
I’d love to hear from members who have been part of other discussions AND from new members who have good ideas, recipes and food tips to share. I’m excited to see who might start us off here with an awesome food suggestion!

I broiled a steak for lunch at noon and just went in the dungeon and my it was hot. I noticed the oven was still on 6 hours later. It’s a miracle my house hasn’t burned down yet. Can’t say I haven’t given it my best shots.

I think your broiler element would have burned out before your house burned down. Get a wind up timer for your kitchen when you use the stove. Set it for longer than what you are cooking so if you forget to turn anything off you will hear it and it will take you t back o the kitchen. Or just put the timer on your phone.

@jakedduck1 good thing, your steak could have been grilled! I always use my timer which is built into my stove/oven. It comes in handy without having to buy more gadgets. If you have a microwave oven you may use the timer on it as an alternative.

I probably should set 2 timers one for my food the other to turn off the oven. More than likely I’d forget why the 2nd timer was going off but a good thought.
If I had burned down the kitchen misson accomplished but I couldn’t be that lucky.
But the solution is simple, I’ll make the sacrifices to not cook and you can send me all my meals, nothing funny though and no disguising something weird. Simple solution dont you think. The beauty of the plan is we both get what we want. I loath cooking and you love it. Although sometimes I wonder if you cook or experiment. Occasionally you remind me of Dr. Frankenstein but I must admit even if you are a mad scientist your results are better.
So, I should expect my shipment when? And don’t forget dessert. Now that would be the unpardonable sin.
By the way my steak turned out to be perfectly cooked and was scrumptious, I delighted in every bite. My sweet potato was absolutely divine. I enjoyed it even more knowing I wasn’t supposed to have it and my lima beans were, well, they were the required vegetable, what can you say about a vegetable.
I savored my lunch. Quite a change from my usual sandwich or cremated remains Im usually left to choke down.
Better wind this up so you can go scavage up a fresh road kill or some snails, grubs, and worms and the like for lunch.

You would have to move to the Tampa Bay area to sample my cuisine.
No way am I shipping my food across the entire country.
Not sure why you can’t have sweet potatoes but would butternut squash be okay as a substitute? You can buy it frozen and it’s sweeter.
You should see the ready made dinners you can get here in Florida almost everywhere and not all that expensive. At Whole Foods you can get food cafeteria style if you have one near you. You would love all the pre cut veggies. I bought a half of a butternut squash today and just scooped out the seeds and roasted or you can buy the cubes already cut up.
We have many local organic and plant based small stores that have ready to go meals with good ingredients and no preservatives. A non cook’s heaven.
Seriously, hire a cook to prepare several meals a week...worth the money and stress less and you will keep your home intact from catastrophic events in your kitchen.
Don’t you think you owe it to yourself at your age (whatever that is)?
But don’t stop complaining...we would miss that lol.
BTW we ordered 4 octopus appetizers at my birthday dinner last week......that’s how much we all love Octopus and this is including my 4 grandkids. I had veal Gorgonzola with papradelle. Dessert was tiramisu with strawberries and Italian wedding cake..to share. Much wine and champagne and roving opera singers at one of my favorite Italian restaurants in Orlando. Next day at brunch I had a cocktail called Aperole. Some people may know of it...orange in color about 13% alcohol and with a nice orange flower floating on top. I would order again. We walked 5 miles that morning but I still needed a week to get the extra 3 pounds off me(that is a lot for me).

I just finished dinner and it was scrumptious at least for my unsophisticated taste buds.
Steak, baked sweet potato, lima beans, kimchi, and a chocolate filled carmel and Japanese goodie called mochi (rice flour, sugar of course & filled with peanut butter. Watch out Julia Child.

Can anyone think of a delicious side dish to go with my steak or chicken thats long on flavor and short on calories besides sweet or regular potatoes or rice?

Asparagus or broccoli drizzled with a bit of olive oil and flavored balsamic vinegar baked or frilled in a foils packet, green beans steamed with sliced garlic, onions grilled with a dab of butter or olive oil, sweet corn, if you microwave or it doesn't need to be slathered with butter to be good. Grill or bake mushrooms, onion and garlic, with a little seasoning. I seal in foil and do this - no mess or pan to clean.
Sliced fresh tomatoes and cucumbers, sprinkled with chili lime salt (we use Tajin from the Mexican grocery). Cole slaw, we add shredded carrots, apples and sometimes craisins or pineapple. Really good whole grain herb or garlic bread, we buy a small pkg and freeze, take out just enough for the meal. Most times we do 2 veggies, salsad and a veggie, or a veggie and a fruit instead of a starch like rice or potatoes.

I roast my vegetables and like them better this way. Season as you like. I make a cauliflower (potato) salad. I prefer roasting the cauliflower .. no potatoes are in it. I mix mustard and Mayo, chopped onions & celery, salt & pepper, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder. A great side dish.

I also roast all my veggies on parchment or foil...can't get any easier and no clean up.
I am going to try a cauliflower salad....never thought of that....love cauliflower.
