Hi, I have been looking info about stomach polyps for my 13y/o son. He was having GI symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, food get stock in his esophagus, constipation, feels lump in his throat. They did check his throat awhile ago and it looked normal(scope). His symptoms did not get better and they said it might be EoE food allergy disease, we did 2 months diet and it kind of helped, he had endoscopy and colonoscopy last week, he has 1.5cm metaplasia polyp in antrum area. He is only 13, how am I gonna tell this to him. They said his stomach looked like chronic gastritis. Why would a 13 y/o boy have this? I do have same sympyoms for a while too. I had endoscopy 2 years ago no polyps. I need to know if anyone also had that before. Because we did the food elimination diet prior to scope, there was no esonophyl cell in GI track. So we do not know if he has EoE or some of his symptoms are from EoE. H. Pylori is negative, his colons are ok. They will do more imaging and test and will remove the polyp to look at it again.

Hello @faye1 Welcome to MayoClinicConnect. We’re all volunteers on this site and not doctors. We try to help others though our own health journeys and experiences. I’m glad you found us. I can imagine that you must be so worried about your son. I put the link to information about stomach polyps below. You are also worried about how you’ll tell your son what is going on. Have his doctors told him anything with regards to the tests and why he was on a special diet? What have they explained to you?

@faye1 Has your son been able to see any more doctors and get more testing? How are the two of you doing?

Hi @faye1. The only thing scarier than going through an illness ourselves, and dealing with the fear and stress of the unknown, is watching our children go through it. As a mom myself, I can certainly relate to that. But I am also a middle school teacher. I have worked with a lot of 13-year-old children over the years, and if there is one thing I have learned it is that they are more resilient than we give them credit for. They follow our lead, and appreciate when we answer their questions as honestly as we can, even if that means telling them we don't know. So lead your son as honestly as you can, and as you feel comfortable with, because you know him better than anyone. I agree with @astaingegerdm, no reason to stress him, or yourself, more than needed right now until you have more information. Remember to breathe 🙂 We are here if you need us!
