Osteoporosis treatment or strontium citrate?
Is reclast a safe treatment for osteoporosis I have not done anything so far except strontium citrate?
***Director's Note:***
There’s not enough research to know if strontium fights osteoporosis. Also, the FDA doesn’t regulate supplements in the same way as prescription drugs, so it's not possible to know if if they are safe or work well or even how much of the main ingredient they contain.
If you want to take a strontium supplement, it is recommended to ask your doctor first.

I thought vitimin K clots the blood. A friend of mine was on blood thinning meds and hit his head...wouldn't stop bleeding. ER gave him a shot of Vitimin K. Since I need some sort of thinner (using Horse Chestnut for vein health but do take a baby aspirin sometimes) I'm not sure about using vitimin K. Any thoughts please? Thank you all so much!
@lynneat Look at healthline.com and naturel medicine journal.com those are 2good sites I have osteoporosis and Dr told me to take calcium citrate 600 mg 2x a day along with Vit D 5000 mg as well I do some herbs that are recommended in healthline Good luck Besides the vitamins exercises are needed .
It seems what I read re vitamin K2 is that it’s a + for the bones. I mentioned it to my Dr and she was horrified that I was taking it. Said would never recommend to her patients because of the blood clot effects. I’m terrified of bone fractures but at the same time dread going back to Fosmax Doing everything I can to avoid.
I take vitamin K2 and D3 along with other supplements for my neuropathy. You might want to press your doctor for specific information on why she is against K2. This is an older article from 2012 and a newer one from this past January.

Thank you for posting the links to the two very informative articles. Like someone mentioned in another post “we have to be our own advocate “ adding these articles to discuss with Dr.

Some of these postings are several years old. Osteoporosis treatments have come a long way since 2018. My rheumatologist and endocrinologist both recommended Evenity. In 12 months I saw significant improvement in my spine but not in my femur. My belief is that my lack of exercise caused the decrease in bone density in my femur so now I am serious about exercise. I've transitioned to Prolia after 12 months of Evenity. Still no side effects as far as I can tell. The monthly injections of Evenity were in the doctor's office and were not bad at all. With Prolia I will have a shot twice a year and I've had the first one and it was not bad either. Personally, I prefer taking a drug that has been vetted instead of cobbling together several chemicals that are not proven scientifically to work and be safe for the majority of people who may be taking several drugs that might interact with them. Whatever you decide to take please do it with the guidance and supervision of a qualified medical doctor.
My husband has been advised to have a Reclast infusion. I am opposed to his having it because I had one a month ago and am still struggling with high blood pressure and new aches and pains. (I’ve never had above 120/60 in my 75 years and I have practiced yoga for 10 years).
Will you please advise me as to what, besides calcium and vitamin D, we can add to his supplements so he can avoid my tribulations.
Do you recommend Boron? Strontium? What strength?
I was crushed to realize that Reclast will be recirculating in my body for three years.i hate this blood pressure and ensuing crankiness.
I had taken Forteo for one year and bone density declined, I was 55 years old at the time. Started taking AlgaeCal Plus for over two years, slight improvement in hips 2.4 now and spine declined to 3.8.
59 years old with a horrible bone density, just got a Prolia injection and I ache every day. I discontinued AlgaeCal Plus and just started taking OsteoMD which seems to be rated number one. I don’t know how well it’ll work but willing to try. All the very best to all of us suffering with osteoporosis. 🙏
Hello @lucy59 and welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Thank you so much for joining the discussion to share your experience with medications. It would be great for you to provide some periodic updates on your progress with OsetoMD and the Prolia injection so members like @suerc can learn from you.
How long until you will get an update on your bone density?
