Catching after Knee Replacement

Posted by jvalart21 @jvalart21, Apr 28, 2021

I had a total Knee Replacement in 2019. It’s been catching I had a CT scan it show nothing was wrong. Now it hurts to walk I have a lot of burning from my knee to my foot. Now I’m going in to have fluid drain so it can be tested to see what’s the problem. Has this happened to anyone else?

Hi @jvalart21, Normally I would try and pair you with a group of members that are discussing knee replacements so that you could connect with them and learn from their shared experience, however, I think this occurs more often than we know and I would like to keep it as an individual post so people have a chance to answer.
I have a friend that experienced what you are going through and is still having difficulty finding an answer.
I have done some research on the subject and one diagnosis that I found described her problem almost completely. Patellar Clunk Syndrome.

Here is an article on a study they did - https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3715621/#:~:text=Background,superior%20pole%20of%20the%20patella.

Have you asked your physician about an arthroscopy to check for rubbing and catching?
This article gives possible different scenarios - https://orthosports.com.au/knee/knee-pain-after-total-knee-replacement/

Perhaps you can tell us a little more about your situation? When did the catching begin?

Thank you, I go Friday to have fluid draining and tested. I have a great doctor and he’s really trying to find the answer. In the meantime it’s frustrating.

Hi @jvalart21, You will see I moved your comment to the discussion you had already started on the same subject. We like to keep similar topics together, but don't worry. Every time someone posts to it, it goes back up to the top of the group list so members know there is a new comment.

Unfortunately, the people on Connect are not medical professionals, so they can not offer advice, but they can offer their own experiences.
I would like to invite @sueinmn, @artscaping,artscaping, @eeppeerr88, @gardeningjunkie and @mrsflutterby who have either had or knows someone who had a knee replacement with complications.

Did a technician drain the fluid or did a physician? Did you ask them what the blood indicated?

You say it is catching. Mine was clunking, seriously! Sometimes scar tissue can form after surgery. Mine was called clunking knee syndrome. Believe it or not, that was the name. I had to have a very short arthroscopic surgery, in a surgery center, to remove the scar tissue and then it was fine. I still have a loose implant and some pain but I really don’t want a 3rd revision.
