Any recommendations for a neurologist at Mayo in Rochester MN

Posted by ktgirl @ktgirl, Apr 25, 2021

I am considering seeing a neurologist at Mayo for my peripheral neuropathy and don't know where to start. Seems like there are lots of neurologists there. Some have D. O. after their name and some have PhD's. Has anyone here had especially good luck with anyone in particular? I am having surgery there on my elbow May 7 and since I can't get any feedback from my neurologist here I thought I would try someone there. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I am a Neurology patient. They work as a team, request an appointment, and the appropriate doctor will see you. They each specialize in their own area (dementia, neuropathy, myasthenia gravis) etc. That's how it works for me, I've seen several neurologists.

Thanks. I've had surgery for a total shoulder replacement about 8 years ago. The neurologist I saw in my area didn't give me anything to go on. I had the EMG done by a different doctor and I never heard from the initial neurologist. When I asked if he had any information for me he said to consult with my primary care physician who in my case is a nurse practitioner. Needless to say I was rather disappointed. So I'm hoping to find something out at Mayo.

I had an EMG, that was Dr Sorenson for me. My left side goes numb.

I saw Dr. Julie Hammack and was pleased with her.

My neurologist was assigned to me when I had my intake with the doctor who reviewed all of my issues. They seem to assign who is available during the time you are going to be at Mayo. They gave me a schedule and I was seeing a number of doctors and having scheduled testing. They are very efficient in getting all that needs to be done and who you need to see!

Initial diagnosis of the problem.

When I requested an appointment with a neurologist at Mayo they told me they couldn't make an appointment for me. I have other doctors at Mayo and Mayo is included in my insurance. So, just be aware that they do deny appointments sometimes.

I have an appointment at Mayo in Rochester on 6/21. I have 4 tests already scheduled. I want to explore treatment modalities other that gabapentin and Cymbalta for my small fiber neuropathy, which are basically useless. I especially want to explore neurostimulation which appears to be very effective for peripheral neuropathy in some patients . I sincerely hope this will be a multi specialty team effort, because I want to eliminate any other possible contributing factors. I will post on here with updates letting everyone know what my impressions are.
