Side effects with omeprazole/Prilosec use
i am an 18-year user of daily OTC Prilosec. It does a perfect job of controlling my GERD but I am constantly battling side effects of nutritional deficiencies in iron, B-12, magnesium, etc. For example, my hair is extremely thin and loss of energy is a constant problem. I am looking for specific help in knowing which supplements to take for this and in what doses and formats and on what schedule. All the nutritionists I've found locally are not well-versed in Prilosec use. Is there a medical provider out there who specializes in this? And would they be willing to work with me long distance?

@beckymel I take Lanzoprazole (generic Prevacid) and Levothyroxine (generic Synthroud?) too. For years I took both together in the morning but now I take my Levothyroxine in the morning and Lanzoprazole at bedtime (head of bed raised).
@sjn1975 my mother had Alzheimer’s the final ten years of her life. She died at age 86 (the longest anyone has lived on either of my parents’ side of the family) but her death was the result of a broken hip bone. Since I seem to carry most of her genes, it would not be surprising if I end up with at least dementia if not Alzheimer’s. I will be 75 this year. From everything I have read about it, you can take drugs to slow down the process but you cannot prevent dementia or Alzheimer’s if it is in your genetic makeup.
Thank you. Good thought. As a human I am always trying to control :/ 🙂
You might want to consider change of diet - Dr. Aviv's Acid Watcher's Diet - is very helpful. Check out D-limonene for helping with acid reflux. And finally, as well as raising the bed, try to sleep on your left side (if humanly possible!)
I take lansoprozole due to a hiatal hernia. If I forget to take the daily dose, in a matter of a few hours the sharp pain begins. I have tried other remedies but it always ends badly.
@1950 same here!
👍
Hi I just wanted to tell you that I have ic and pelvic floor dysfunction too. I hate it. But I don't meet people who have it so hello there it felt strange coming across another person who might understand what I go through. Anyhow im 38 my memory problems were getting so bad, I couldn't remember what time my daughter took a nap, what we ate for dinner the night before. I never thought it could be from gabapentin. But well it was . I took gabapentin 900 mg a day for 8 and a half years. After I stopped I could remember things again. I felt relieved. Also im sorry u have ic, its been a hard life living with it
How are you doing now @destinnana?destinnana
it has been a while since we talked. I still have this horrible fundo. after lots of retesting, the results show no acid reflux. the esophagram showed that my wrap is still too tight because water hangs up and takea while to go thru. i have problems with drinking cold water necause it feels like i am burning. the same for cold "boost". my stomach empties. Al i know in the operating room writeups , it was noted twice i have a hyperactive esophagus. this means i will feel pain which feel like heartburn, but is not. it s the neuro reasponse of the nerves that are creating this pain. i am on atavan 3 times a day to help control this perceived pain. the AMA fix for hypersensitiv esophagus is hypnosis ( which failed on me and antidepressants (i.e. atavan). since the procedure i have put onabout 20 lbs and am holding there. i have also more recently developed a bad taste of all my food. nobody knows what this is. it is not covid-19 since i have been vaccinated fully with Pfizer vaccine. the other problem is i have trouble fasting. i still burn when i am trying to fast. i am going to go to a different thoracic surgeon to tell e what is wrong. i need to have my left artificial knee replaced so the best we canprobably do is to get another brvo 48 hr test to see if the wrap has loosened up. does anyone else out there have been diagnosed with a "hypersensitive esophagus"?..... best wishes.. kozlo52
