I am caregiver of s/o age 79 with dementia. I know the roller coaster ride I've been on for the past four years. I can't imagine how it must be to have TWO. Do you belong to any online support groups? Or community?

I know how you are feeling and you are not alone. I am the youngest of two (45 yo) and my mother is declining very rapidly with alzheimers. She is 82 but I remain steadfast to be her strength as we get through this.

And I'm very sorry to hear of your mother's sudden decline. What I've learned from the groups to which I belong is that sudden decline is quite unusual, and to look for a UTI or other illness, or medication issues.

You made a very good statement: "... you are not alone." That's so important to realize and understand, because even when you KNOW that, there are days when you FEEL alone anyway. I'm sorry about your mother, too. I love what you said about being her strength as you get through it. How long has she been diagnosed?

That is so very young as I am 68 yrs old and my mom is 96. We now have Hospice workers that has been wonderful.

UTI - Very common
Medications. My mom is off everything except her heart medication and she has done well.

My heart and support go out to you! Do not be afraid for there are many caring people and places to help you with this double burden...we love our parents, and without a doubt, seeing them fail so IS terrifying! E-mail me at any time.
